View Full Version : Question on mounting rad

This is kind of hypothetical because I'm probably not going to do this in my current case, but I'm just trying to gain some knowledge on WC'ing.

Well, here's my question,
I've got an Asys 8676BW (http://www.techsunny.com/.sc/ms/dd/Cases/2235/ASYS%208676%20430W%20ATX%20Green%20CASE%20W%5E2FWi ndow%5E2FFront%20USB%202%2E0) which is about the same as the case in the link, except it's black. The case has 2 80mm fan spaces in the front, 2 80mm in the back and this site says it has one up top too (didn't know that, and not sure if my case has one, have to check - not at home currently). I've got an extremely cheap and poor performing WC kit installed in my PC (don't wanna talk about it :P). Now back to the point, if I were to buy a Black Ice Xtreme II Rad (http://www.dangerden.com/store/product.php?productid=2&cat=5&page=1) (hypothetically speaking) how would I go about mounting it? I haven't seen many cases with 2 120mm fan slots, so how do people with either only 1 120mm or 2 80mm mount one of these things?

Well, that's it! Thanks in advance.

i suggest shoving it up top, move your cd-drives down 2 slots, and then cut 2 120mm holes on the top of your case and screw your radiator up there.

Hmm, interesting concept. I'm not sure if I'll be doing that in this case, but if I were to buy a new case which were better suited for WC'ing what would you recommend?

well, many large cases are perfect for the job. depends on how much you want to spend. i built my own case so i never got into metal case's, so im not the man to ask.

but what you should tell is. along with other things your looking for.

A) price range
B) size IE: server sized? mid-sized? large but not server kinda large?

Okay, well I'd say the most I'd want to spend on a case is around $150. About the size, I'd want it to be big enough that I'd never have to worry about not having enough space, but at the same time, compact enough that I could bring it to a LAN party without to much hassle. I guess the "large but not server kinda large" would be the best choice.

I only have a midtower, and I plan on staying that way, but I am doing a W/C rig with a dual 120mm rad. Here is my solution (I just perminantly mounted it bout a hour ago).

Gonna have some fans ontop sucking air up through the rad. Now of I can just get that damn Apogee GT :bang head

Stacker Cases are great for water cooling with the least amount of hard(cutting) modding needed. The 830 I believe has dual 120's on the rear and the stc01 has vent on bottom which is great for mounting a dual rad.

You can mount 2 x 120mm radiator on top of the case, or buy a swiftech MCB-120 radiator box and mount it at the back.
