gigabyte gforce 2 pro
abit kg7 m/board
lian li case
coolermaster cpu fan

ok if any of you chaps can point me in the right direction of how to speed this pc up without spending a ridiculous amount of cash on a gforce3 (as they are £320.00 notes in the uk) then please let me know

That's a great setup you have there. Your mobo (great choice btw) is very good for ocing so you can get more out of your setup. Start by raising your FSB little bit at a time and keep an eye on your temps. You may have to bump the Vcore up to 1.8 or 1.85V. This is when your temps start going up fast, so be careful not to fry your cpu. Each time you bump your FSB up, run a benchmark to see the effect and some program like Prime95 to test for stability. When you reach your stability limit, then go down a couple of MHz on the FSB.

The next thing you can play with is your CPU multiplier. But you get more out of increasing your FSB.

Once more, watch your temps when you do this.

thanls for that.

as an kg7 user can you tell me how you change your fsb

that coolermaster m8 is a bit iffy, idon't think it will take u that high on the clock speeds so thats the first thing that has got to be changed, except the motherboard i got nearly the same system as you.
as azhari said be careful of the temperature and try to keep it in the low-mid fourties and not over 50 cos that would shorten your procs life.
to change the FSB on the kg7 i think u go to softmenu III option and change the setting to defined (not automatic) and then the board allows u to change the FSB. I'm not to sure cos i havent got an abit board but that's what i can remember from my m8's board.

Madgamer is right. Go to the bios setup and put the fsb in manual, then you can up the "fsb plus MHz". This adds to the 133 fsb. For example if you set the "fsb plus MHz" to 7, then your fsb will be running at 133 + 7 = 140 MHz.

Good luck and watch those temps ;)

here is a great site for the KG7-R it has a lot of info so try to read as much as you can especially the installation page.

looks like a nice sys. I agree about the cooling though I have a cak 38 which I don't like (noise and performance). I have a glaciator 2 on the way. good luck!!!

Yeah, the coolermaster's not a lot better than the stock heatsink that comes with a retail athlon. I've never had one but a glaciator is a nice and powerful heat sink that doesn't make much noise. Any type of microfin hsf will get you awesome air cooling. In the USA Dynatron makes excellent skived microfin heatsinks. Skived are better cuz the fins and block are one contiguous piece, not a block with fins soldered on later. Thermalright, Vantec and Dynatron make good inexpensive air cooled heatsinks.

The KG7 is an awesome board. I had one before the KR7A and it rocked. Softmenu-III is so great. You'll really like it. It's very easy to use. A lot of people like epox as well. Having never used them I cannot attest to their worth but they must be good if so many people say they are.

Good system. The only thing I'd change would be the HSF to a microfin model or maybe an 80mm thru-board HSF if I had the money...like an alpha 8045 or swiftech -462 series.

I agree with Kendan and donny_paycheck on the Glaciator II. It is all copper, has a quite fan (something like 36dBA instead of 48 for others with the Delta). The only HSF that beats it from what I have seen is the SK6, but it has the Delta on it so your fan niose will almost be un-bearable (trust me; the Delta 38's will keep you awake at night if you leave the system on!).
There is one minus: you have to lap the p*** out of it to get it anywhere near a good working surface:( But for the niose and proformance, $32 ain't bad! :)
