CD-IN for sound card

Does anyone use the CD_In on there sound card?
What are the advantages?

I have never hooked one up and never understood to importance of it.

You only need the CD-in if youre running anything older than Win2K. Win2K, XP, and Vista dont require it.

No. The only purpose for the cable is to have CD audio playback on pre-Win2K systems. It will be just another piece of wire on newer boxes.
