View Full Version : One core hotter than the other?

First off, got my core2duo here, and when using coretemp or intel's tat I'm noticing the first core is 2c hotter than the second when using orthos or prime95.. pretty much anytime in general. Is this normal behaviour?. Also when testing out new o/c's I'm noticing that core 1 will fail and produce errors while core 2 is completely fine.

Lastly I'm noticing a large discrepancy between what my asus probe cpu temp is saying and what coretemp/tat are reporting, the asus probe is reporting temps 5c hotter than what coretemp/tat are so I'm wondering wich I should be trusting for temp measurements.. I'm leaning towards coretemp/tat would I be right?.

i notice this too on my E6600 and DFI ICFX3200. Smart Guardian is reporting temps way higher than TAT or Core Temp. Don't know which one to trust.

My temps are as much as 4 degrees different between the cores. I have noticed TAT always displays the higher temp, so I err on the side of caution and trust it.

Maybe the CPU's IHS isn't even on both the cores. My cores are at most 1C away from each other at idle. This was before and after lapping the IHS though. As for which program to trust, Smartguardian and SpeedFan both report higher temps than Core Temp for me, but when I asked the same question people all said I should go by Core Temp/TAT because they are taking temps directly from the core. Hope this helps :)

thx for the info, I'll be going off coretemp/tat measurements from now on.. the stink of it is I can't seem to get any higher than 2700mhz out of my 6400, no matter what the voltage... meh.. win some, loose some... still faster than my old amd barton system lol.
