Why not use your old Vacuum cleaner to cool your system?

It would have to be modded and be made quiet, but wouldn't it be better to take heat away from the CPU and directly out the other end of the vacuum outside the case?

Otherwise the hot air just circulates even if you have good cooling.

What do ya think?

hmm.. that an interesting idea. Has a veery similar principle of how a tornado works. :D However, a tornados center usually has a much lower pressure than its surroundings which basically causes whatever the tornado goes over to explode outwards.. So maybe this idea would be put to use too. :D

But where would the fresh air be pumped in from? As a tornado has a warm gulf air and a polar air mass moving at an excess of 50 mph :p

Use a leaf blower!

Maximum air flow.

hahahaha ::imagines the pure insanity of that case::

99,000,000 CFM :D

Max air flow??? take your fan of your HS and rig up a 150PSI compressor to blow on it.....hehehe. i was seriously considering usind an 8HP Briggs and Stratton lawnmower motor and an industral air handler for cooling an old cyrix mII PR300 of mine and see how high it would go without blowing up.

if you found a way to put the air compression stuff outside and a way to cool the air it might work. probably better to go with water though.

Funny this should come up. I was thinking about removing the fan from my heatsink earlier this week and holding the intake hose of my shop-vac to it. The only thing that's holding me back from doing it is the possibility of building up a static charge from moving that much air. Gotta do some more research before I try it.

Actually,I,m taking 4th class power engineering right now.And with boilers if you create vacuum, you have below atmospheric pressure, this creates natural draft.Which theoretically, would eliminate the need for case fans. You would still need a hs/f,but if you had your draft right thats it.

I'm gonna try and take this thermodynamics crap I'm taking and apply it too my stack.

A vacuum cleaner would be a bit drastic thou, and as far as vacuum; maybe a bit impractical. But optimizing mechanical draft with baffles.;)

Why not just put your system in a square tube (since most computer parts are not rounded) and put like 9~120's in the bottom and 9~120's in the top so it sucks the air right through the system!?! ;)

why not go skydiving with your system

if you had a centeral vacume system that would be pretty cool

but i dont think thouse motors are ment to be on for extened periods of time

it is a bit like using a hair dryer to cool the cpu, it gives good cooling (as long as you put it on cold) but the fan is only designed to last around 1000 hours and is expensive and noisy

I was thinking more of a modded vacuum, the idea was it would have an intake from the outside of the case (like a hose) then it would connect to the CPU then all the air sucked out, so there was a continous flow of cool air through it.

Basically if all the Hot air is being dessipated outside and fresh air being taken in it would stay really cool.

Obviously it would have to be deignes differently and be reasonably quiet but it could work.

I thought of this idea as I don't really want to watercool my new system in case it leaks (I do not trust any watercooling) so I was thinking how would air do if a new system was thought up?

I mean eventually before we use DNA Computers:eek: (look at the thread in General Discussion) there will be so much heat pouring off these that there would need to be radical cooling, and I don't think business' will trust having water in their new systems.

SO just thinking of a practical new system. Yes I know Vapochill is excellent but it's very expensive and you have to use their case.

What da'ya think?
