Hey guys,

which heatsink do you feel is the best for the eVGA 680i mobo? I've been looking at the

ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink

but I've heard it doesn't fit. So where should I look?

Thanks

The best out there will be the Tuniq Tower 120. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835154001 (Can be found elsewhere cheaper)

Depending on which style motherboard you got, you may or may not need to modify the backplate to mount it. I believe you need to do the same for the Zalman to fit. The older style motherboards have a couple capacitors sticking up that get in the way, but there is a newer revision board without the caps and allows a flush (no mod) mount for aftermarket coolers.

*EDIT* By the way, welcome to the forums. :) There is a lot of information on this forum about the EVGA 680i motherboard that has been covered over and over. Use the search function up top and you will probably find most of what you are looking for. Dont hesitate to post with questions though!

I'm using the Zalman 9500 on an eVga 680i board. I had to modify the back plate to fit around some resistors. Here is a link to a guide on how to do this. They have made a new revision to the board so newer ones don't have those resistors, but I'm not sure when people will actually start getting those boards. It wasn't hard to do. Just check clearances twice before your final fit.

My Temps idle around 31c. It's not to loud compared to other parts in my comp. People will probably recommend the other cooler because of different reviews.

I use the Thermaltake SI-128 heatsink.

It mounts in the same manner as the stock heatsink, so it is easy to mount (no modifications are necessary). It cools about as well as any air cooling heatsink fan combo.
My E6600 running at 3.6GHz @1.45volts only reaches 60C at full load in TAT or Orthos.

This would be my recomendation for that motherboard.. Plus a 120mmX38mm high performace fan of your likeing.

The motherboard exausts north bridge heat (wich it has plenty of) twoard the CPU and a GOOD downward facing heatsink such as this would help keep that heat away.
