View Full Version : I've hit an OC wall...

Ram: 5-5-5-15 @ 2.30v
CPU: 395x9 @ 1.450v

going for 400 x 9 gives me an error in Blend, CPU, and Ram in Orthos.

My other voltages are cranked up too btw. Razz

What's making me hit this wall?

@ 3550mhz i'm running <45c

My voltages are normally lower, but i cranked just to see if it would make a difference, and it doesn't at all.

One quick thing you can do is drop the multiplier to 8 (your P5B bios should allow this) and retry for 400. That should give an indication (not conclusive)that all is not well with the ram. As i say, it's not conclusive but a start.

That worked. 400 x 8. All the other settings are the same except I dropped the vcore because it didn't need to be as high as it was. :)

So...what now?

I'd go with what RS stated, also i'd play with the RAM voltage a little more... 2.3 seems high to me for some reason.

set your ram to the timings and voltage as stated on the package. d9 memory loves tight timings, raising them doesn't really help, and can actually hurt stability.

also, 395fsb is problematic on 965 mobos, as there is a "hole" in the fsb between ~350-400. set it to 401 and you should be much more stable.

Really? That's some info I wasn't aware of. :)

Well the timings for the ram are 4-4-4-12 at 2.2v stock. After 3.45ghz and 380+fsb, I could only stay stable at 5-5-5. I'll try 401 tomorrow(next time I can mess with it) at 4-4-4 and let you know.

Thanks for the help! Any other suggestions will be appreciated!

No Dice. Orthos failed within seconds on CPU and Blend.

Tried 401x9
4-4-4-12 at 2.25v
CPU @ 1.425

Any other ideas?

Ummm, try 401x8 or x7.

That works. Tried that. :)

That works. Tried that. :)
that's what i said! ;)

your ram should be able to do say around 450+ at 4-4-4-15 with 2.2v. i have d9's myself, and i'm doing 500mhz, 4-4-3-6, with only 2.25v.

looks like your cpu doesn't like 3.6 with the voltage and/or cooling. so now see how much higher your fsb and ram will go for some extra muscle.

Have you looked at the chipset voltages? Maybe up them a bit.

I am a bit wary of suggesting some more cpu voltage but at the risk of getting flamed and assuming your cooling is up to it, 1.475v might swing it.

PS
Regarding bios, maybe a quick look at some of this lot might help...................

Regarding the fsb "hole" there is this..............
