I'm considering the purchase of a Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical mouse. I'm tired of cleaning the mouse ball...!!!...I'm a Quake III Arena player and am concerned about this devices ability to be fast, reliable, and accurate...Is this a good choice or should I go to a wire version instead...???...

my logitech cordless preforms very well, i haven't had any problems, but i suggest getting an optical mouse pad
There is a very good round up of optical mice at Tomshardware, it includes your Logitec too. Worth a read before purchase.

What is a optical mouse pad. Never heard of it or seen one yet. Should I hav.e one I have the Intellimouse Explorer
You really only need an optical pad with old style optical mice. The new type will work absolutely fine, even on your trouser leg.

I got mine like last year or so and I was using just on top of my desk but it started acting funny so back to the pad.
If its playing up, get a cotton bud (q tip?) and some solvent cleaner. Then gently clean the leds on the underside of the mouse, that should get it goig again

It started acting right the moment I put it back on the pad . I didn't even clean it.
They can play up a bit if the surface they are on is very reflective. If you got a shiney table thats probably it.
logitech optical is the ONLY way to go - but in my case (with the trackball) it SUCKS for gaming! - Max Payne it is good but Unreal Trouney and Quake III it is terrible.... - trackball is more precise but much slower and harder to move around fast compared to a normal mouse setup.

also any thing with a small pattern in it will some times throw off optical mice. ( like a fine grid or stuff like that )
but other than that there is no disadvantage to optical
they dont stick or jerk or anything i love em

MY Logitech Dual Optical has a hard time reading the Ratzpad when making fast movements. They're telling me the mouse is the problem, not the pad.
Anybody using the Everglide Giganta V1 pad with an optical?
