View Full Version : Power Supply
Im getting a new case http://www.coolerstar.com/icebox100.html
it comes with a 300W. My question is Im building a new system with the following:
Athlon XP 1900+ 1.6GHz
Shuttle AK31 V3.1 ATX VIA Athlon Motherboard
Thermalright SK6 w/ Delta 44CFM Fan
Plus Im going to have 3 or maybe a a few more case fans. I was wondering if you think 300W is enough power or if I sould get more. And if I get more will 350W be enough?
Thanks a lot

You need more power than 300W. Are these just generic PSU's in that case or are they name brand? Can you find out? I would see if you could buy the case without the PSU and then get a 431W Enermax.
the case is here http://www.coolerstar.com/icebox100.html and it comes with w/AMD Approved (Intel P4 Option)ATX 300W,350W,400W,400Ww/2Fan or 450Ww/2fan Power Supply UL,TUV,CE,FCC

I saw the PSU options but if they are no-name I would not buy it! For those prices you can have a 550W Enermax, that's all I would be concerned with.
So were would you suggest i get my case?

Antec's cases make everything I've ever used before look like cheap toys.. and the power supplies are AWESOME. Yeah.. it'll cost a bit more. IMHO ... they're worth it.

check out the first link. It'll take a 120mm in the front and in the back. They also have AMD recommended power supplies (not included) from sparkle and seventeam. Not enermax's but my t-bird don't care.
I got my case from them, and mine's not a cheapo either. The YY-mini server cube with a 400 watt psu. In black of course!
imho, sparkle and seventeam are better than enermax anyday!
original poster: the 300w might be fine, or it might not. some generic psus are really great, and others just blow. if you have the option, then pay the little extra and get an antec or some other name-brand case and psu. the generic isn't really worth the risk.
