I brigged the L1 and the L7 on my 1.4Ghz AMD 266FSB Athlon and then didn't oc the CPU? Would this raise the temps of the CPU any way or burn it up? I don't have the $$ for a H2O rig and am going to have a hard time getting the Millennium Glaciator II as it is (got an old ladie who keeps the purse strings tight!). Could I go with air cooled for something like this?

That cpu should be unlocked so doing the L1 bridges would not be needed.
Doing the L7 bridges would set the default cpu voltage to 1.85v.
That would probably cause a increase in the cpu temp's of 2-3c/

Why do you want to bridge the L1's and the L7's if you don't want to overclock?

If you'4re not going to OC it, there's no point in bridging the L! and L7 bridges.......

As long as the speed (multipliers and FSB) remains the same, it won't raise the temps any......

:( In my BIOS, it won't let me change any of the settings unless I change the settings to Optimul or Performance. How do I go about changing to see if it is unlocked since it doesn't let me increase passed 133? I have a ECS K7S5A Mobo (I know, it sucks but I think my post above answers why) and it has no on board jumpers or anything. THe BIOS is an amazing Cluster **** to update (which I haven't been able to do yet) so I am missing 2 updates. I have a 2x AGP All-In-Wonder 16MB card which I need to upgrade and the case I have the system in right now, is sucky on air flow; i.e.. none! I have Sandra but am not sure how to really implement the requirements without having my system boring as hell!!! Anything you guys can come up with would be great!!! Thank You for all of your help:) :) :)

I have a K7S5A.
1. You have an unlocked processor, don't mess with the L1s.
2.You have a MB (K7S5A) that cannot change the voltage.
3. You have a MB that cannot change the multiplier. There is no setting in the BIOS, the MB doesn't have the necessary HW built in, and the only way to get it is to whip out the soldering iron on the board.

You can OC tho. Closing the L7 will increase your voltage from 1.75 to 1.85. You can get CPUFSB which can increase FSB and CPU in windows.

Since the MB will just use the multiplier the CPU says, you actually have to bridge and cut L3/4's to get it to change multipliers, MANUALLY 1 at a time. (Don't laugh, people with this board have done it.)

I am running an XP1600+ and stock voltage @1542 (146.85FSB).

Also, at ocworkbench, they have a BIOS that will give you FSBs:
http://www.ocworkbench.com/010911.zip

100/112/124/133/138/150/166.

150 is cool if you can get there because it switches to 1/5 pci, and 1/4 at 124 (not that you need it).

There is a bios that is supposed to allow fsb overclocking you can find a link to it here:

The updates are not incremental. If you want the latest, just update to the latest. You don't have to flash each update sequentially.

For all the negative for overclockers, this is a rock stable board. Others have had problems, but this is the most stable board I have ever owned, amazing for $62. The way they got it so stable is by wiping out most of the circuitry required to change settings.

What type and brand of memory are you using? If you have decent RAM, this is one of the few things that can be adjusted. Crank on the timings. Memory performance is excellent on this board, only KT266A can beat it, (and not by much).

I have the same processor it should be unlocked. I'd think if you are stuck with the MOBO you have go after the updates and get the bios to the latest revision. I think as far as cooling goes there are tons of cheap but effective ways to get your temps down. A decent HS even copper core can be had for under 40$ if you know where to look. If that doesn't help whack a couple large holes in the case and mount 2 large fans moving more air in and out of the case has to help. The processor ... I'd be very carefull messing with the L7 bridges I have on some basically it raised my temps and nothing much else (but that's me). I'd get the bios done first by all means.

:) Thanks for the suggestions Pepsi! I am thinking about going with the Millenium Glacaitor II because it is good on temps. (from the tests I've seen only the SK6 with a 38 can beat it) and it will be so quite compared to my Vantec with the 38 on it (girlfriend already said O.K. for this). I am also thinking about moving my system into another case that I have that is a full tower to see if that helps my already high temps. (45C-50C!!!!).

You guys are life savers, Thank You!

 I'm SORRY to forget thanking Placid and SteveI for their help as well! I didn't see your posts until now. Again Thanks all for your help:) If I can get my heat problem under control, I will definetly go for the gold!
