Finally, coretemp works without hitting F8 all the time. Warning - this will permanently disable the need to use signed drivers, IDK of a way to turn it back on, but I loathe this enforcement.

Start > Run > Type 'CMD'

Type the below (or copy/paste) in the dos prompt. Reboot. Done.

bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

I typed that and it said data store can not be opened Access is denied. I am logged in as admin. Any ideas?

How odd, worked like a charm for me.
What copy of vista are you running, not that it should matter.

And :welcome:

Those working and not working should post Vista versions. Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate? OEM, Upgrade, Retail? Might help to see if there is a common denominator for who cant apply this fix.

I have no idea why it is not working as it worked fine for me! Surfrider77's suggestion is a good one. I am running Vista Ultimate RTM.

Sent you a PM, hope the info is helpful for you. (Just a trick to make the 30 day Vista trial extended to 120 (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/extend-windows-vista-trial-to-120-days/) days) ;)

How about using the Group Policy Editor to disable "Code signing for drivers"? Start | Run | Type gpedit.msc, and click OK | Expand the following branch...

User Configuration | Administrative Templates | System | Driver Installation

In the RH pane right click the "Code signing for drivers" setting--> Properties | Under the "Setting" tab select the "Ignore" radio button.

Ya that makes it livable in Vista 64 :)

If it didn't work make a shortcut to the cmd.exe. On that right click and run as admin and see if that works. Sounds like what your running into is you aren't running it from a "true" admin mode which there is 2 levels of in Vista. User account admin, and the supreme admin by forcing the program to run in a higher admin mode.

But, but thats too easy ;)

Thanks a bunch you guys!!!!! I had to go to my windows/system32 directory to find the file, but created a shortcut to cmd.exe on my desktop and ran as admin and BOOM! "The operation completed successfully"
Thanks again.

Seems like something that Microsoft might deem as against their terms and perhaps illegal?

Why a Microsoft rep suggested it. As well its built into the OS that way. Its not a work around it comes with Vista as is. Its another hole MS forgot to patch up before releasing just like the Update of the Update.

Haha! Now Symantec et al. can continue polluting the Windows kernel with their antivirus software.

A monopolistic tactic foiled by a simple technical solution...nicely done.

*braces for Microsoft to "fix" the "vulnerability" in the next "update"*

neither of these options work for me.

I am running RTM x64 ultimate from msdn download.

the group policy edit does nothing and the command line gives me the same error others get.

edit: I got it to work.

start/run/cmd didn't work

Had to go into to start and run the command prompt as admin.

Still doesn't disable it though.

Rivatuner can't load its driver.

blegh

If Coretemp loads it worked. If it doesn't load then theres an issue still. TAT doesn't work for me at all signed or not so its a problem with the program not the signed drivers or unsigned drivers with Vista.

After I posted the above, I gave that a go, would let it load/start but it said my drivers wouldnt work with it so I couldnt do much.

anyone know of another way to get this to work? I tried this and it doesnt work any more. I was using ready driver plus, but that has started malfunctioning. So... now i need to figure out how to completely uninstall readydriver plus and somehow load unsigned drivers.

deathman20

There is a way... Its a program that changes how the boot sequence starts and it automatically selects disabled signed drivers from a fresh boot. Quiet nice forgot what it is called.

Gabkicks
01-16-09, 05:14 PM
yeah, its called readydriver plus, unless you know of another program that does the same thing. That doesn't appear to work for me anymore and I'm not sure why... Also, I get 2 messages before windows loads. here's one of em. the other flashed too quickly for me to pause and screenshot:http://i42.tinypic.com/1o4z2nt.jpg

I tried uninstalling it via programs and features, and that didnt seem to work. So, I downloaded easyBCD and deleted deleted the readydriver plus entry, tried reinstalling readydriver, and it still didnt work. I also tried the "allow unsigned driver installation on vista 64-bit edition" that EasyBCD has, and that didnt work...

@ Gabkicks... Why do you need to disable driver signing?

Gabkicks
01-17-09, 08:39 AM
The drivers for my steering wheel aren't digitally signed. :(

One other thing you could try... expand the following branch in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Non-Driver Signing

Right-click the "Policy" binary value, and then click Modify. The Value data will appear in the following format...

0000 02 or 0000 01 for example.

Hit Delete once to clear the current value (the 02 or 01 like in the above example), and then type 0 (the current value will now appear as 00). So the new binary value data should now appear as 0000 00.

Unfortunately, that didn't work, but i appreciate the help. I changed registry, restarted, and it still wont let me install the drivers. I get the same "not digitally signed" warning. I searched around and it seems no one has a fix besides F8 :( which is annoying.

There's one other possibility that I know of...

Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.2
http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=dseo

... and then after installing, you might want to remove the Test Mode watermark:

I was about to make a new post but searched and found this one instead. I just want to confirm that the Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider works awesome for me on Windows 7 RC. I'm using it to run ATI Tray Tools instead of CCC.

It sucks. It's technically a good feature, and can prevent rootkits, but ultimately the user should be able to decide what can run on there computer.

There should be a way of making exceptions for specific drivers, allowing them to load while not completely disabling driver signing.

Yeah, I agree. I'm just glad there's a workaround at all. Can't live without my ATT.

The only thing I've found that works on both x64 Vista and Win7 is ReadyDriver Plus.

http://www.citadelindustries.net/readydriverplus/

Just set it up on the actual boot drive/partition, not always the default C:\
