View Full Version : Fast downloads with vista...

Okkay.. Im running vista on my main rig to see how it handles.. and its going good.. but the download speed is incredible.. I normally get maybe 300 KB/S tops on stuff.. but now im hitting 585 and higher on the download.. I use charter 3 MB cable internet and iv never hit anything this high before.. is it because of vista?... Im downloading Raganarok online.. and its never went this fast.. (about 30 mins to dl the 1.03 GB folder from their site.) Anyone know if vista has a improved.. downloader?

It may be due to the (advertised) relief of OS overhead. I read about it in MaxPC, and they said that according to reports, it is a possibility. Although, are you sure that it was just changing the OS? Do you have another comp you can test with?

I have XP on my other drive, and I DLed RO for it as well a few days ago(reinstalled it) same hardware config and everything.. but I got more then double the speed on vista.. It took about an hour and twenty minutes for RO to download on XP.

its not the OS.... if n e thing vista would slow it down... i would try 2 differnt systems downloading the same file from the same server back to back ... because i have a 15mbit down Fios line and i almost never get to see my full 1.825MB/s download because most webservers dont allow that much bandwidth, and also vary speeds due to load.

I think your isp gave you speed upgrade.

Maybe they did.. bah.. I just realized.. how annoying my rig was with vista.. the fan on my 7600GT was on full the WHOLE time.. in XP it lowers some.. but yeah.. I guess thats why everyone is ticked off at nvidia over vista right?

Both nvidia and ATI drivers for Vista suck right now, although in different ways. And yeah, there's probably a reason for your speed going up, like the server being less busy, or your ISP giving you an upgrade.

i think your realizing the general rule of tumb of vista.... it generally sux :beer:
