also if i report my friend code to nintendo, can they help me with my vc games? would they brick the wii if anyone hooks it up to the internet?

and if they hook up my 360 can they buy stuff with the credit card that i set up my xboxlive with?

i am sooo f'ing mad!

dude that sucks...I have no idea....but you need to move on up to the east side of something if your apartments been broken into 2x's. If you find out post back on these xbox live and Wii VC questions I'm sure we'd all like to know just in case.

should set up a cheapo computer or use an existing one and hook up a usb web cam that is activated with motion detection. My Creative web cam came with monitoring stuff and its like 5 years old, im sure new ones have software and the like.

I plan on setting up a webcam monitor at meh house and for the front door

Ok you got robbed twice? Are you not locking your doors or something? I have lived in Section 8 (low income ,govt assistance, poverty type) housing a few times and never been robbed. You need to look at what you have been doing that keeps making you a victim of this stuff.

Wow man that sucks. I know it's not always in your control, but like others have said maybe you should look into better security. Not just locks but even a non silent alarm. (Doesn't call anyone but makes a loud noise like it is, often scares people away)

You don't have to leave your doors unlocked anymore for someone that really wants to get into most homes. Look up "lock bumping" and "bump key" on the internet. Look at this news report on it HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr23tpWX8lM).

Now, that being said, for someone to be targeted twice for a home robbery, I would have to think that this isn't a random crime. Someone knows that you have these high tech devices and that is why you have been targeted a couple of times. Regardless, good luck on the insurance, and I hope it doesn't happen again.

Yea, I would watch for a friend with a brand new Wii and x360.

If he doesn't have receipts... batter up

I know all about bump keying, but still the fact that he got robbed twice means more then just chance.

I just sent a nasty Wiimail to your Wii, brother. I'ma see if the crook responds. ;)

Did you have your My Nintendo account linked to your Wii? If you did, then you might want to give Nintendo a call and see if the crook registers any more games. If he does, ask them to give you the IP address that it was registered from (or have them send it to the authorities) and see if you can get it back that way.

The unit is pro'lly still local, and pro'lly hooked up.

I'll keep an eye on my Wii slot. As soon as it glows blue, I'll let you know what he responded with.

i agree on time for something to change .. not to knock you for this but it sucks .. and you should do more to make sure this doesnt happen again ..

1. never bring home expensive electronics in the store bag or out in the open. find a way to cover it up without looking suspicious .. grocery bag ? dollar store, 99 cent store bag .. lol .. think of something different .. expose your products as least as possible

2. invest in higher security. from double locks to window locks ..

3. setup some kind of alarm .. they sell cheap motion sensors at lowes, etc.. mount it somewhere hidden as possible and mount it strong .. a few seconds of piercing sirens is usually enough to scare off most criminals..

4. start adding lock devices to your expensive equipment. doesnt have to be fool proof.. just something good enough to at least make them spend sometime trying to get it undone .. more time they spend there means the less time they have to make it out without being caught.

point being you gotta protect yourself better .. even if you have to get a huge safe.. and unplug everything and lock it up ..do something different... i think it was mentioned before too .. what about moving ??

where is this person getting in at ?? if your suggesting he picked your lock .. then i would highly investigate whim ever has a key to the place .. landlord, janitor, maintenance ...

sorry to hear this man !!

no no, i know who it is, his name is steve-o and he USED to be a suedo friend, but after the first robbery, i finally found him and beat the hell out of him 2 days after that my fiance came home and found the place robbed again... good news is that the police found a PERFECT set of finger prints on the base for the wii (he didnt take the base) the cop said he couldnt have got a better print if he took it from the kid at the station. so we will see. (and i havent touched the base for my wii in months, so i dont THINK they are mine)

i cant do anything else tonight, but tomarrow, i need to call aaron's (the rent to own place i got my digital projector from) and see if they cover theft, im pretty sure they do. then i need to call my insurance company and see if they will cover another breakin within 2 months... *crosses fingers* then im gonna call nintendo and microsoft costomer services and see exactly what they can do.

anyways, ill keep you all updated...

Ever watch the show It Takes a Thief on Discovery? Lots of good information there to keep yourself protected, and I think everyone should watch it. It comes on 6pm EST weekdays.

Yeah that show is pretty good. I watch it whenever I catch it on. But yeah, even if they do bust your psuedo friend, it doesn't mean he won't come back and try to rob you again. You should still invest in some sort of alarm system or something and better lock.

If this guy robs you again, after he gets busted, he'll most likely do what he should have done the previous times and wear gloves. So a motion sensor hooked up to a hidden webcam might be a good idea. They bust him a second time, then he'll be in deep ****.

Go all out. Glass break alarms, electronic door locks, alarms on every window and door, motion sensors alarms, 10 cameras linked to every tv in the house, front door motion sense camera, 500lb safe, etc etc. :)

Then bolt down all the video game systems and computers in your house <-notice no smiley face here

Hey, if you have anti spywares, virus scanners, and firewalls on your computer, why not do the same for your house?

Damn man, i know what it feels like. I had my laptop jacked from my car and it was hidden. I got two things for you.

1- Video surveillance.
2- A Shotgun.

If step one works you won't have to use step two:)

I hope you get all of it back or get covered for it.

You don't even need a shotgun. All you need is the cocking mechanism. The part that makes the chck-CHCK noise. Lord knows if I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be and I heard that, I'd pro'lly end up dropping a loaf in my drawers before I started running.

never thought of that idea. Make it come from a dark corner where they can't tell if some one is there, Better yet have it sound like 2 people are loading the chamber of the gun. I would think twice about ever robbing any one else after that. Like you said i would S**T my self.

You might want to look at your choice of friends.. If they are willing to rob you not once but twice, they arent friends.

BTW it is called chambering a round Oni, DO NOT do that unless you are willing to use that gun if need be. Having your own gun taken away and used against you is probably pretty demeaning.

Damn your own friends or what used to be friends. Same thing happened to my best friend, One of our buddy's told his other friend and they came and jacked them, but my best friend wasn't home and the lame roommate was. They jacked him point plank and took my best friends PS2 and Video Camera, We both come home to find the roommate Hog Tied on the couch. I couldn't help but laugh. But then we found out who did it and got back the PS2 an camera but everything else was gone mostly the roommates MaryJane. Thats what you get for touching that stuff.

But isn't $5000 or more a felony? I know that if you buy something over 5K and don;t pay you can go to jail for a felony or something like that.

Just spoke with my father who is an assistant manager at the Aaron's store here. He states that they do not provide any insurance, and that it is the renter's responsibility to have renter's or home owner's insurance. Best of luck in getting your stuff back, and get a security system!

I understand the idea, but the cost involved is the EXACT same as a full shotgun due to the fact that you have just purchased the most important part of the gun. (http://www.hunter-ed.com/id/course/ch2_parts_shotgun.htm)

I have had to pull my shotgun before and was willing to use it. (idiot landlord decided to come over at 2am unannounced)I know what you are saying but if I was the criminal in your scenario, you would need your ninja abilities to fend off me beating you to death with the chamber, trigger, firing pin, action bar and magazine. Besides you're a ninja, just sneak up and incapacitate them while you await the arrival of the police.

Definatly hidden camera's. THat bump lock thing I didn't even know about. Thats some scary business. Sorry to hear that it happeend again but damn some "friend". Wonder what would be the easiest way to get him back there when you are at home. And just wait for him with a bat in hand. That would **** me off, the first time and the second time I'd go fricken ape on him.

No one touches my crap and gets away with it, expecially twice.

If I where you I would go to www.billing.microsoft.com and close your payment account then they can't purchase anything with your card stored on the 360.

Once you get your new 360 back then you can set it up again.

Yea, its good to live outside of the city so you can forget to do this kinda stuff. My mom would kill me if she knew I went to school with the door opened all day though.

Some real noisemakers can be made with old PC fans and some wire. A bit of wire fell into one of of my case fans(didn't stop it, just touched it) and I woke up nearly crapping in my pants to that sound.

Im sure you could rig something up to where some wires touch to switch on a PSU when your door is opened a PSU is switched on, thus, fans spinning up.

Or you could do something practical like cameras or an alarm :)

As for the amount whether if it is a felony or not. Most states are about $250 for it to be Grand Larceny. Burgalary is a felony. It does not matter the value of the items taken. If it was forced entry, then it is breaking and entry. Nothing even needs to be taken or proven taken in this case. Robbery is when items are taken with (implied or use of) force. If the person is caught with the stolen items, they can get another zinger for thier troubles. Possesion of stolen property. That is when the 'Grand' part comes in and makes it a felony or not.

If the place was not totally trashed. I would suspect you know them. Somehow someway. Lets hope your insurance covers you. Or your going to be stuck making payments on somehting that you don't have possesion of. If they are caught you can sue them for any losses and damages. Time to keep an eye out in pawn shops, ebay and folks you know who would buy something like that stuff. Make sure you have the serials and police reports handy./

Youch. Getting robbed twice? That's gotta suck. Well the best way to keep out intruders, IMO, is to get a nice big dog. Then again some apartments look down on pets...

I lived in low income housing for a while with my GF. It was a nice place at first... newly built, i moved into an apartment that had never been lived in before, still smelt like latex paint even after a few months of being there.

After 6 months though, the place went down hill QUICK. My car was broken into twice, and my GF's car got broken into once... and my next door neighbor had his dook kicked in one night while my GF and I were there, she got freaked out and refused to sleep in the place until almost a month later. Turns out he was actually an identity thief, and his neighbor got busted for having a meth lab.

That bump lock thing is SCARY.. new lock time at the house. Good luck with everything man, i hope things turn out better for you. Honestly though, i would think about moving as soon as you can get out of your lease.

Pulled from a different forum that I post on

keypad(Cipher locks are what I always have heard them called) and wafer locks are the only ones that I know of that aren't immediately vulnerable to key bumping.

The cost of the lock doesnt make a difference, there are videos out showing that the cost of a lock does not equal more security. Some of the cheap locks actually were more secure due to the slop in the cylinder. Neither of these videos are at all new, are either of these in Dutch? There is a video that was put out that was about 20 minutes long talking about key bumping and which locks were and werent easily vulnerable to it.

Besides how many people have their windows filmed so they are impervious to most bricks? How many people put pins or dowel rods into their sliding glass doors to keep them from being lifted off the track? There are so many ways to get into a house that dont even involve my walking through the front door that key bumping is low on my list of worries.

Adragontattoo

Basically here is simple security for anyone that wants it, from someone with a gray area past.

First off:

When you leave your house, no matter if it is for 2 minutes to run to the store or 2 weeks for vacation LOCK YOUR WINDOWS AND DOORS.

When you are at home, dont leave that side door open because you might get locked out. get a neighbor or a hide a key or an external door with a cipher lock.

First floor windows and doors should be closed and locked anytime you arent home (second floor really should be too)

Mask those basement windows with sharp pointy bushes, it hurts to walk through them and I wont want to do that just to check if I can open it.

There are window film (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/WF/3MWindowFilms?WT.mc_id=www.3m.com/windowfilm) available that will protect your windows from getting smashed open (not stop, but make it difficult), they dont block light and offer some decent protection.

Sliding glass doors and side sliding windows are easily lifted off the track even if you have a stop bar on them. Put dowels or screws in the tops to keep this from happening. Most are relatively easy to install and remove but the extra bit of security is worth it.

If you have a decent car stereo, dont go down your street blasting it. Turn it down long before you are pulling into your parking spot.

If I can get to it, I can open it. This includes your balcony doors, and second floor windows as well.

Try to not flash all your cool, flashy gizmos to the road so that Joe schmoe when he is driving by can see what to take. (I can drive slow through your neighborhood if I hold a map and look lost and NO ONE will question it.)

Be aware of your surroundings, not all bad guys, wear masks and drive cargo vans while smirking at the camera.

I can keep adding to this.
