I need a laser printer dirt cheap, like $60-80. I know there are occasionally some sales like this, so if anyone finds one or knows of a good deal please let me know.

No idea how good/bad this is, but it's the best I found:

Not too keen on the MIR, but it's a good backup find. Thanks!

Have you checked craigslist? My friend got a decent one on there for 20$

There are about 3-4 laser printers in the $60-80 price range, which are even hard to find at that price. I have the Samsung ML-2010. If you have a MicroCenter near you, then you can pick one up for $80. Brother also has an entry-level laser printer in that price range I've seen at Best Buy and Circuit City. I believe HP also came out with an entry-level laser printer, but you'd have to check. Dell also has there Laser 1110, which I believe is OEM Samsung.

Samsung ML-2010 (http://3btech.net/samlblandwhl.html)
This is the one I have, I've had it for about a year now and never had to replace the toner eventhough it comes with a starter toner, if I was still using an inkjet i would have had to have bought ink at least two to three times during the same period of time.

Same here, it's a pretty nice printer. I got mine when it was $120 after rebate... then about a week later it went down to ~$50 after rebate.

FWIW, the rebate seems to come pretty fast, plus you'll get an email when they finally process it.

Wow, that is a cheap laser. says the starter toner cart will do ~1000 pages...that's pretty decent...I don't think I print that much in 2 years :)

Any idea how much the replacement toner carts are for that printer?

Ditto , on the Samsung ML-2010 ! Good little work horse and toner is easily refillable and dirt cheap (tonerkits.com) .

google FTW

Here's a site that has replacement toner carts for ~$36 w. free shipping (3000 page yeilds):

I might have to talk to the little lady and see if I can get one of these :) I've only printed like 50 pages out on my HP c3180 and I have already had to order new ink carts.

I got a ML-2010 for FAR, it has worked flawless so far. I recently ran out of toner so I had to get some rather than buy a new cartridge...

I used tonerkits (on eBay) per stereo's recommendation, I got 2 kits (i.e. 2 refills) for $12 shipped for the starter cartridge. It took about 5 minutes to do the refill process, wasn't messy at all and it prints as good as new.

I'd wait until the next holiday and then look at the prices. These things are on sale a lot. I picked up a Samsung SCX-4100 about a year ago for cheap on sale (like $50). It's a laser all-in-one. The carts are about $80 in the store, but can be found cheaper online.

Death to ink jet cartridges!

Be careful what you buy, cost of the laser isn't everything. Look at cost of cartridges too. I like brother personally, because a lot of their printers do not require you to replace the drum every time you replace the toner, which saves a lot of money. I'd rather pay 200 for a printer, and 30 per cartridge, than 50 for a printer, and 100 per cartridge.

I know you said you dont like rebates , BUT Staples rebates are the exception . They can be done online , with no UPC cutting or mailing and are SUPER reliable and fast . With that said ...

The Samsung ML series are very nice intro level printers. My ML 1710 has lasted me almost 4 years, with only one toner replacement and I have been printing tons of papers and notes, regular college stuff.

It has been quite abused as well, I even dropped it about 3 feet onto a concrete sidewalk, and it started right up and ran flawlessly.

You know what? I might just buy one too....haha. I'm sick of my inkjet.

I'll chime in and say I've had a Samsung ML2010 for over a year now, it's a DAMN fine printer. Stater toner is still going strong even after printing hundreds of pages, it warms up quickly and prints quickly too. I bought mine for $100 but have seen them for $50 after $50 MIR, just do a froogle search. It also comes with Linux drivers as well.

I would also like to point out that the drivers for these laser printers don't suck. There aren't any programs running in your system tray so that at any time of day you can know exactly how much ink you have and the status of your printer. Quite simply, you click print, and its prints, and that is all I want my driver to do.

Ok my two choices are the Samsung at Staples or the Brother at Officemax.

Both are okay for price, but which is a better printer? I don't mind paying a little extra for a better printer.

I am running the Brother HL1440 I purchased from staples for $140 dollars more then 2 years ago. I also purchased a high yield replacement cartridge (6,000 pages) for 50 dollars. But, I am still on the original cartridge :) I am on the end of my 5th ream of paper.

Thank you. I was in need of a printer and am more than tired of playing around with printer heads and the cost of ink cartridges. I was determined to get a laser printer that would last me awhile. Though I can not say whether or not this one will last, I can say that I did order it from the site you linked. It is a refurbished unit that was $62.99 shipped. Delivery was relatively fast and the item was delivered as advertised. No usb cable but that was to be expected. The driver disk (ver 1.20) was non functional and appeared to have been abused by the original purchaser? At any rate a download of updated drivers (ver 1.54) and it performs flawlessly. Warm up is relatively fast (as my experience with office types compares) and printing is acceptable. Thank you for putting me on to this. Samsung ML-2010.

I just bought this printer and its awesome.. I have a 2040 too and its the same cartridges.. I have about 4 empty cartridges and just bought the toner on ebay so can fill them for about $10 or $12 each..

I got in on the staples deal this week and with tax I ended up paying $66 for the 2070N.

That rocks yeah I bought mine a while back from Newegg, it was like $90 shipped or something. So worth the money though...$66 is a steal.
