after i burned my Radeon 9800 Pro as seen here http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=502275 i went out and bought a new one... at first, i picked up an ATI 1650 Pro that has 512mb ddr2, but then my friend told me that the BFG 7800GS OC (256 gddr3) is better... from the specs, the ATI is faster by about 100mhz than the BFG in terms of both memory and core... but the BFG is 256-bit while the ATI is 128... i ended up picking the BFG 7800GS OC but i just want to make sure that i made the right choice... both are the same price...
my system is AGP... 2.8GHZ Intel Prescott... 1.5GB DDR400 ram and Windows Vista...

1600 series ati's are not that great. ATI's "pixel shader" terminology makes these cards sound better on paper than they really are. With the exception of the newer 1650xt the 1600 series cards are all 4-pipe cards (for reference your 9800pro had 8). The 7800gs is a much better choice, if still a bit slower than ATI's new 1950pro agp card.
i think the 9800pro were 256 bit actually, but the 7800gs is a better card regardless :)

Sometime this year NV is going to be releasing a DX10 8600 for AGP, if you want DX10 your going to have to upgrade your card again here in a couple few months :)

There was a few varients of the 9800Pro. One (http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/details.php?id=5) was a neutered 128bit. I agree the GS cards are much better. More bang for the buck in that class.
