My PSU has been making odd, unbearable squealing noises for the past couple days. I couldn't figure out what it was until I noticed that the bottom 120mm fan on my Hiper 580W PSU wasn't spinning. Can anyone offer me any advice on how to fix it or how to stop the noise? I can't seem to find if the PSU has a warranty, I have only had it for a short while.

Thanks

It should have at least 1 year warranty. It is either changing fan yourself and voinding warranty if any or trying to get for rma.

If you want to warranty it, then you should try that first. Otherwise the fix for it will void your warranty.

It should take a standard 120x25mm fan. You can either replace it (cut/splice the wires for it) Or if the fan still has life left in it you can oil it with some 3in1 oil. I did this on an old power supply as soon as the fan started to squeek and it's been running fine for about 2 years since then.

I had the same thing with my Hiper Type-R Modular 580W, but mine was sorta DOA - the 120mm fan didn't move at all the first time I powered it up, I poked it with a pencil and it started spinning. But a few days later it stopped spinning again.

I mailed the shop and they said the PSU was temp regulated (yeah right), I didn't trust them and mailed Hiper directly, they replied pretty fast and told me to RMA the thing immediately, saying that both fans should be moving at all times. Somehow I wish I waited for the Enermax Liberty, but that model wasn't available yet. The Hiper Type-R really gives buzzing sound when my rig is under load: not quiet at all.

Are the fans in that PSU sleeved or ball bearing type? I was reading from a search in the cooling section that if its ball bearing type you can't lubricate it. Well atleast not effectively because the ball bearings are covered up.
