Could everyone please post your processor's idle and full-load temperatures? Also, please specify if overclocked, cooling, etc. I think my full-load temps. are way too high, especially compared to my idle temps - a change of 16 C!!! Thanks in advance.

PIII 1.1 @ 1.32 (1.85 Vcore)
Idle - 32 C
Load - 48 C

Non-overclocked coppermine CPUs tolerate higher heat better than overclocked CPUs. The higher you overclock and the higher the voltage, the less it will like running hot. Your P-III is definitely too hot. I'm at work so I don't have my notes to look at and don't remember what my idle temps are, but I try to not let my P-III 700/1071 @ 1.9v go above 40 degrees load temp. My system begins getting unstable in the mid 40's. I'm using a GlobalWin FOP with a 80mm fan. I would work on bringing those temps down a bit, at least to the low 40's.

Be sure you're using some good goop for that heatsink/cpu contact. What type of heatsink are you using? This will determine much... my alpha Pal6035 can't even cool the Tualatin effectively but the glaciator can...

Heatsink : ThermalRight SK-6 w/Sunon 23 cfm fan
Thermal Paste: generic... I'm using generic because round 1 of "Me vs. AS II" did not go well. After applying it MANY (~10) different times exactly the way the website says to, temperatures would just rocket to upwards of 60C before I had to shut down. I figured it was the heatsink's clip applying "bad" pressure, but my Golden Orb had the same results. So I got myself a CPU shim - haven't got to try it yet, though - round 2 is scheduled for next weekend. :p

That's one reason why I would like to see peoples Idle vs. Load temps... I wanna know if my thermal crap-pound is responsible for the high load temps.

So please, POST MORE TEMPS!

P3-1000E @ 1.33GHz, 1.80V
Thermalright SK-6 w/ 38cfm 6600 Delta lapped (linear ;) )
Asus CUSL2 v1.009 BIOS
400W Antec PSU
VisionTek GeForce3 Ti200 (240/500)
VisionTek GeForce2 MX400 (second monitor)
WinXP Pro

CPU temps:
34/45 (idle/load)
Load = combo of folding@home and Prime95

Case temps:
23 (pretty constant)

I have an Abit ST6 I'm gonna plug this CPU in to see what temps it reports. I think the CUSL2 may be reporting screwy temps. It reports same idle temps when I use a P3-550e in it. In fact, these are the temps that I got with it back in Oct:

I reinstalled my P3-550E (5.5 x 100 @ 1.6V) and recorded the following temps (CPU loaded by Prime95) on the Asus CUSL2 v1009 BIOS (case temp at this time was 28C):

Speed @ Voltage ------Idle--------Load
------------------------------------------------
550MHz @ 1.60V ------ 34C ------- 40C
733MHz @ 1.65V ------ 34C ------- 41C
803MHz @ 1.80V ------ 34C ------- 43C

Hi Xaeryan, welcome to the Forum,
My Cellie2 900@1123Mhz is cooled by an Alpha Pep66 with a Delta38@7v and a lot of case fans (take a look to the signature for more info) and the temps are 29 degree C @idle and 38C @full load with an ambient temp of 20 degree C (the last one temp is a foundamental factor to evaluate the temps, obviously :))

I hope it helps you ;)

OK I'm guessing your Golden Orb had the same results because your only using a 23cfm fan. Those SK-6 should be using around 35cfm fans!

No, I meant that the Golden Orb also didn't work with the Arctic Silver II. The SK-6 with generic paste is MUCH better than the Golden Orb with the same generic paste... I just can't get AS II to work on either of them.

Excuse me, but have you applyed a very thin layer of AS II only on the Cpu core? coz the temps are really strange, and I totally agree with tsunami, at the moment I'm using a SK6 with a delta50Cfm on a XP 1700+ @1.6Ghz and the temp @full load is around 38 degree C with an ambient temp around 20C!?

yep, I tried a very thin layer (and only on the core) many different times with no success. I also tried thicker layers a few times - better, but still terrible. That's why I don't think it's sitting properly. I'm not good at tolerating the noise of a high-cfm fan like a Delta 38+, which is why I went with the Sunon. But I doubt that's the real problem - I've seen many tests where this fan performs almost identical to the Delta 38cfm.

Do you have tried cleaning the HS bottom & the Cpu Core with nail remover or ethilic alchool, and after reapply the thermal paste? and about the fan, well, Delta's are absolutly noisy, my hears agree, but @7v are more quiet (really tollerable) and still working great.

yeah, tried cleaning in between... tried originally with the stock surface, then I lapped it and tried... I tried pretty much everything.
*sighs*

Uhmm...do you have tried also with the fan that sucks or blows on the HeatSink? generally is better if the air is pushed inside the HS, coz the copper dissapate the heat more slowly than the aluminium, so prefer a direct airflow.

Xaeryan

I currently have it blowing down on the HS. With it sucking air away, temps go up about 6 C...

Hmm..

OK Either the layer is to thin leaving no contact between the heatsink and fan.

You put too much which de-effects the performance.

The SK-6 requires such a more cfm'ed fan.

Your airflow in there is bad.

You should get case fans and make sure your heatsink is sucking cool air..

Should be approx 300cfm of air flow in there I recommend 400-450 or 500 to be on the real cool side.

Considering those YStech move 131cfm are 120mm and aren't noisy at all for only 15usd what a bargain!

300cfm??? i think 150 should be more than enough.....its designe and not "how many fans can fit in your case....

my overclock is in my sig

ambient24C
idle 23C
full load 28C

rounded cables, ducted CPU fan, good case cooling, decent copper HS [lapped to 600 grit] with Delta38cfm, hole cut in MB tray behind CPU with a small fan installed, all wires zip tied for better air circulation. large HSF on northbridge.

If you look at pecos post he has a basically identical setup to the one Xaeryan would have by adding a 35ish cfm fan. I don,t like that heatsink. It had its day but above 1000 mhz and definitely above 1.75 volts it does not take care of business. I prefer the swiftech mcx370-OA with a 38 cfm fan for this duty on Intel cpus. I'm getting good results on my Athlon 1.4 using this HSF and a YS 38 cfm fan (37idle, 44 full load, 29 ambient).
