what type of error is it
are you doing the stress test or a wu?
try doing the self test

More than likely its your ram timing. Crucial to my knowledge <actually noone to my knowledge> makes registered CAS2 DDR. A quick check using this program:
http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp
would probably help you prove that...It creates a self booting floppy that runs a number of random patterns into your ram and pulls them back out to check that they were correctly written, its an excellent tool for figuring out if prime95 is failing due to ram or cpu problems...Id suggest either a higher memory voltage to try and get the ram stable <you do run a risk of damaging your ram over time> or lowering the timings.
Big Mike - I have been looking for a program that will actually let me test RAM outside of the OS. This seems to be what I was looking for so THANKS. Hopefully less FUBARed HDD:beer:

where do you get thouse little boxes that test them( sdram dimm's) like they have at the comp shows
yea i think prime will just give a illegal sum out error restarting to XXXXXXxx interval
what i would do is
get the new version of prime
get it going
get mbm5
have it set up to keep a log every X seconds
when prime crashes it puts what time it crashed in the results.txt or prime.log then just compare the time of the crash to what ever is going on with your system.

i tried the simm checker and this did not work , i run the test and it just froze the system, i could not even boot from the disk it created ? i created the disk in win xp ?
the error i got in Prime95 was
Test 1, 400 lucas-lehmer iterations of M14942209 using 768k FFT length
Test 2, 400 lucas-lehmer iterations of M14942207 using 768k FFT length
FATAL ERROR:Rounding was 0.4999990463, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file
Execuation halted
although it has run further before
i have re-seated my Ram
as i heard this was a known problem if u get random restarts and no POST error
which i do sometimes !
i have set RAM to
CAS 2
core is 1.8v
ddrv 2.52
i have done this as i had AGP post problems (monitor would not come on)
which seems to have helped
WinXP seemed ok bar some odd restarts ??
and twice blue screen "hardware failure"
Run MBM and prime95
got as far as test 5
expected 0.499781847 expected less than 0.4
checked MBM log all the same
06/12/2001 | 21:23:21 | 1404 MHz | 22° C | 37° C | 48° C | 1.86 V | 2.51 V
event viewer no errors
should i match these settings in bios
Anyideas ?
thanks again Welly

Ok, for me, failure in Prime95 was always a heat issue. It seems your temperatures are ok according to MBM5, but it is not always accurate. It COULD be RAM, so test your ram as stated before, but I doubt it, especially at stock speed.
What hsf are you using?

Like i mentioned the Simm test crashed when i tried to run it
and i could not even make it a boot disk ? do u know of any others ?
i have a dragon ORB 3
noisy but seems cool to me !!
i also have a card that chucks air out of the bottom
i have found some other settings for my RAM recommended to help PRIME95 and post problems on kg7-raid
will try them out
here they are
1400 133 4.4.1
1.80
3.50
2.52
CAS 2 > turbo
ok tried this and this is was same as i had
so tried 2.65 instead random restart on prime 95
ok tried CAS2 > normal also random restart on Prime95
this got throught more tests but crashed afterwards
other major problem with xp is acpi error
which need BIOS update from Abit !!

Test 1, 400 lucas-lehmer iterations of M14942209 using 768k FFT length
Test 2, 400 lucas-lehmer iterations of M14942207 using 768k FFT length
thats not good
that means it failed right off the bat
supraway is right prime95 only uses 8mb of memory at the most ( unless you tell it otherwise.)
try cooling it off realy really good ( use a house fan or something)
and see if you can get farther in your testing ( i belive it goes up to like 40 if your doing self test)

from what i can tell the CPU not over heating as it is (MBM5seemed ok)
Dragon ORB 3 > makes enough noise it better be doing its job
but also from what i have heard there have been loads of problems with
the 5w bios update and i am going to try and go back to 5e
and then run Prime95 again

I am confused. Do you have the chip overclocked? If no then why is the voltage set at 1.8. Set your system parameters realistically first. Then try to test your system. Find the recommended voltage for your 1.4 and set it there. Only raise above that if needed to overclock and even then only as needed.

sorry i am not overclocking , i set the volt to 1.8
as i was having post problems and found these settings to help (viaarena.com) this has helped
what i am going to do now as i have learnt so much over the last month is go back to bios 5e
as i think the original problem was a crap PSU that is why i went to 5w not knowing what the problem was (would not allow 2 sticks of ram due to crap PSU not BIOS !!)
once back on 5e i will set all to default
hopefully the next post will tell you all is working fine
thanks this is all great information
