View Full Version : Water Cooling is HOT!
I recently bought a kingwin water cooling set, and it's running way to hot for comfort (maybe my comfort is incorrect). Whenever I do intensive work (compiling and such), i have to kill programs because my cpu (P4) is exceeding 75 degrees C. I've got it hooked up to the gpu and cpu, but i have doubts that will help to take it off the gpu considering i've tried to do everything command line (no GUI loaded at all).
The thing about the set is that it has a built in pump-display thing that installs into the 5 and a 1/4 slot, and i'm half afraid to install other devices because i know the water is running slow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

More info? What kinda kit/loop you running?
Well first off, kits tend to be poor performers, even so, that does seem very hot.
A few questions first:
-How did you apply the Thermal Interface Material? Did it come with it's own TIM?
-Have you tried re-seating the CPU waterblock? It's a very common problem for the block to be seated bad.

He said Kingwin Water. It's a kit.
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but that Kingwin kit isn't very good. It probably doesn't perform much better than some high-end air cooling. Plus running a GPU and a CPU in the loop isn't helping with the heat dissipation. I say just cool your CPU with that kit.

ooh, that's what i get for procrastinating homework and not reading thoroughly. Sorry bout that.

I would say spend about 300 and build a nice setup. to cool both cpu and gpu. But thats just me and my 2cents. I had a TT kit that came with my TT Armor lcs. i aced it about 5months later and built my own loop and got about 10c lower temps cooling my cpu and gpu. before it was just the cpu.

Biggest thing would be to reseat your waterblock, check your pump, and look for kinks in your tubing.
I found the problem, and I am going to look like an idiot in about 5 seconds (10 if you read slow).
Water Cooling was working fine for a while, refilled it, forgot to bleed the system. Had air bubbles everywhere. I was suprised that air bubbles would kill the heat that much, but they do.
OCnewbee: I'm sure your right about the 300 dollars part, but i spent 100 dollars on my kit and (now) it works fine. Then again i don't need to keep my cpu at 30 degrees C under load.
Anyways, thanks for the speedy responses...

Im was right there with you man, when I made my aluminum shroud for my rad and flipped the rad upside down to shorthen the the length of tube in my loop. I forgot to bleed the loop and my temps were ar 48-50 idel. Turned the case upsode down and whala bloop bloop bloop out goes the air.:bang head

Thanks, putting down 300whp with a del rio gt28rs turbo kit on pumpgas, race gas is up to 355whp. Screams like a bat out of hell on the highway.:)

Guess that kicks my TDI right square in the jimmy. I love the TDI though as 40+ miles to the gallon and I can flip the bird at prius owners as mine used was 1/2 the price and will run forever without battery replacements and rated better in crash tests. :bday:
