I'm about to drop into a RAID configuration. After a long reading I think that I'll use only stripping mode (RAID 0?). After some look around I found that small HD (less than 40 GB) are a little hard to find, but I did find a 20 GB IDE Seagate Barracuda. Is this a good HD?

Another possibility is to buy a 40 GB Western Digital. But I think that having a 80 GB HD (2*40) is overkill, don't you think?

Can I Ghost (via Norton Ghost) a RAID array?

www.storagereview.com now has a reliability database that 6000+ members have contributed to. It's mandatory reading if you're considering buying a new HDD. AFAIK, Seagate's IDE Barracuda's have a good reputation. www.newegg.com listed 20 Gb Barracuda's a few days ago. The thing is, it's ~$19 more for a 40 Gb Seagate!

Raids work best with identical drives. Seagates have one of the better reputations.
Overkill? What is that? I have four 40GB WD drives in my raid.
Yes, you can Ghost a RAID, it acts like it is all one drive.

Thanks for the info on the database, Klosters.

You will be surprised at how fast a tiny 80GB fills up. ;)

I download anime episodes in Japanese (RAW) for a couple of fansubbing groups. I have 2 40gb IBM drives RAID-0, and it fills up about every month, then I burn like 50 gigs to CD's... it takes a long time.

Oh, btw, the school I go to has a few terabytes of space.... think about that....

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH HARD DRIVE SPACE.
