I try to start, and as soon as i release the PWR button, the PC goes OFF ( bad PSU? )

I've been experimenting this since a month ago or so.

sometimes i turn off my pc normally at nights, and when i wake up in the morning, and i try to start the PC, as soon as my fingers left the button, the pc goes off inmediatly.

Sometimes i have to unplug the cable, turn off the PSU, and stuff like that, to make it work again. i don't know what is going on.

i made a quick check with PSU calculator, and it seems that i'm only requiring around 380w, and my PSU is 430w.


I have an Antec True430,
Abit AS8
530J @ Stock
2 HDD
3 CD-ROMS
4 Fans
GF 6800LE
2GB DDR400

My first thought is an intermittent short with the hardware switch.

Is leaving it on all the time an option?

I remember that when i first build up the computer, i made a lot of overclocking tests. But decided to leave it at stock for a year.

After that year, i decided to overclock again, and i could't reach the speeds that i had back then.

Was then, when i started to realize that something was going on with PSU.


It makes a lot of sense now.



I've been off the field for a very long time. is there anything you can recommend ? i want to go back to my 4Ghz like the old times.

Don't want to make a bad purchase again.

The Enhance ENP-5150GH or 5140GH at Ewiz will hold up much better than that old CWT based Antec and power that system just fine.

I'm not saying that's your problem but when anyone is having similar problems to yours and they are using the older Antec True Power or Smart Power models, it raises a red flag right away. When I replaced two failed Antec TP 480s with this Corsair, my intermittent and random reboots, power on/offs, jumping voltages and restarts disappeared. And the capacitors were failing.

Try to get a good look at your power supply capacitors, it may be a clue. Otherwise, I defer to Oklahoma Wolf's suggestions. That's where I learned.

I have the exact ps, Antec 430. I had replaced it about a month ago.
Well the other night I decided to take the cover off. Yuck is all I can say.
One small cap with a bulging top and a medium size cap that was oozing this nasty looking stuff.:eek:
I can't really complain though, as it did last over four years.

I replaced it with a PCP&C 610 silencer. Sort of overkill for my system but was hoping to be ready for my next upgrade.
