Some will tell you you'll run into problems if you try burning from the DCD to the CD-RW, but I have a CD-ROM as secondary master, and my CD-RW as secondary slave, and do on-the-fly burnings with no problems. Just make sure your DVD CD read speed is twice that of your CD-RW burn speed.
I have mine set to DVD as master and CDRW as slave.

Sometimes you have to make sure the 'newer' drive is the Master, I had a problem with my DVD as Master and the CD-rw as the slave as it reported it in the BIOS but I couldnt access the cd-rw, I tried just about everything and then I switched the master/slave pins and all works perfectly.
I have the newer/faster drive set up as master - weather it be the cd-rw or the cd-rom. - I constantly change out my drives - DVD-rom, DD-RW(yes DD is correct), Cd-RW, CD-rom
but yes you want them on the same line and have your zip drive or second HD on the primary line with your master HD
