View Full Version : 600w? not running SLI...
basing on my rig below, can anybody recommend a decent psu less than $140? :)
any thoughts are highly appreciated, thank you.
I'm currently reccomending a Seasonic power supply, or the Corsair 520w or 620w because they are Seasonic OEM. One of the quietest and most effecient power supplies on the market. Anything in the 500-600w range from Seasonic will be more than enough.

Silverstone OP650 is probably going to be my next PSU. Might want to take a look at that, there's a thread about it just a few down from yours.
im currently using this, http://www.mdmm.com/spec.php?productid=155 ...its like topower/fortron rebrands, looks ok but i doubting it... what do u think?

I'd just like to add that 600W is sufficient for SLI, heck a good 550W unit will run 8800GTX SLI with ease. (Ask domnick32, he ran a GTX SLI on a 560W Silverstone Zeus ST56ZF).
i am honestly not going to run sli, should i get the 520w instead?

ciku,
See Super Nade's post just above you with Dominic running SLI 8800s with that Silverstone 560W Zeus ST56ZF. My Corsair is close to that Silverstone on paper and Dominic didn't have a problem running two 8800 GTXs with it.
This 520HX Corsair should handle your system and your 8800 no sweat. Oklahoma Wolf stated that those 8800s take about 12-13 amps on your 12v rail.
According to Jonny Guru's test on the Corsair, it has 40 amps on the 12v rail "with limiters" installed (don't ask, I don't know :)). Jonny's same test on that Silverstone showed 38 amps on the 12 v rail. I'm not a true expert on power supplies but I would say from all Jonny's specs and tests that the Corsair 520HX will eat that single 8800 for lunch.
I know it's an important decision and I know how you feel. You want it to be right and it is an important decision. Unless one of the experts comes along and says "hold up," I would get that Corsair 520w. Since I wanted modular, I got the Corsair. It's a very nice unit, solid voltage checks with a DMM, and quiet as a church mouse.
I would feel comfortable dropping in an 8800 in mine in a heart beat and wouldn't even have to ask here.
cool, thanks a lot, i will buy it, just comparing which one is cheaper :)
i think zzf is the cheapest, ill buy the 520 :)
done :) thanks you all for the replies :)

I'd recommend the Silverstone OP650 as well. It's way powerful, way stable and has an 8pin PCIe connector for future vid cards (like 8900's or x2800)
I ordered one after seeing Jonnyguru's review on it (http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=100).
Min should be here by Wednesday :D
Definitely seems like a great PSU...and it's only $128 at deadeyedata.com (then use discount code "jonnyguru" and get another ~$10 off)
EDIT: Doh....I see I'm too late for a recommendation. Welp good luck with the Corsair...everyone seems to like them as well, so I'm sure it'll do great for ya :)
good deal man, i am holding out for a couple more weeks then buying the 750 watt version.

ya...also a good one. I got in enough trouble spending the money i did on the 650....so I couldn't spring for the 750. Plus I don't think I'll be doing more than 1 vid card any time soon (if I did I'd need to upgrade several other parts as well) so the OP650 should be enough to last me a while.
yeah I am kinda contemplating just getting the 650, cuz i dont think multi gpu will ever be for me, altho I have come close twice now lol.
My 520 powerstream keeps going on surprising the crap out of me though, 5 months now with high overclocks on c2d and 8800's and not a peep, still quiet and solid as ever.

Topower? whichs ones?
The OCZ Powerstream 520W was OEMed by Topower....not one you should look into. They are saying that it was the only OCZ PSU that was decent.
If you have already ordered the Corsair you should be great with it! (OEMed by Seasonic in case you were curious)
