Hello everyone, I was told to come here for my problem.
I just built a new system, and I have a nVidia GeForce 7600 GS, PCI-express.
When I started up the computer, it automatically installed it for me from the CD it came with.
Now I try to update the drivers with the latest GeForce ones from nVidia, it is a success (or so it says) and reboots.
After reboot, the graphics card is no longer installed, and when I goto the display manager through control panel, it says... "(default monitor) on " and shows no card or monitor anymore.
Anyone know what could have caused this problem? I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling and installing, using beta drivers, everything. The only one that works is the one that was supplied with the card.

First WELCOME to the forums. It might be of some help if you posted further system specs. First remove all the video card drivers, using a third party app. if necessary. Then restart the system, decline to auto install, then install the drivers you want, reboot. Is this what you have done?
you might also try to get an older driver to install for the card. such as 91.47 or 93.xx. Its possible your card doesnt like the very latest drivers. is it agp or pci-e?

Hello, thanks for the replies.
My system is;
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 Prescott Processor @ 3.4GHz w/ 2MB L2 Cache
Memory: Wintec AMPO 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
Video Card: BIOSTAR V7602GS51 GeForce 7600GS 512MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16
Motherboard: ECS RS400-A (1.0) LGA 775
Last night I uninstalled the drivers entirely, I rebooted, when it asked to auto install, I declined.
I went to the nVidia website, I downloaded "93.71_forceware_winxp2k_english_whql" and installed. When I turned my computer back on, the video card was not installed.
Now if I goto Device Manager, under Display Adapters it says, "nVidia GeForce 7600 GS" and has an exclamation point next to it.
I right click, goto properties and I get this for Device Status, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".
Any ideas?
P.S., Even if I install the drivers that came with the card, they sometimes don't stay installed.
Like, I will install them, reboot and they are there, reboot again they are not. Sometimes it's installed, sometimes it isn't :(

The only other things I can come up with. Try physically removing the card and reseting it, check for debris on the contacts, make sure it fits in snugly. Then try installing an older driver such as 84.21. Is the power supply adequate? Do you have another video card you can put in your computer or try your card in another rig?

Here is the card I have, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814141032
I don't know what kind of power that would require... but I have a 380W power supply.
I noticed that my power supply has a connector that says "PCI-E", should my motherboard have a place to plug that in?

reseating the card might work. 380w power supply is fine for a non sli rig :)

Re seating?
There is only one PCI-Express x16 slot on this motherboard :(
I've tried about 10 different drivers, nothing works! :(
this time, try going back into the device manager and going to the card properties, click on update driver and go to the manual update. ie, click on select a specific location to search. defaults are c:\nvidia\. look for the folder of your driver version, probably in forceware.
then continue. it will manually install the drivers. if it doesnt work, make sure your onboard graphics are disabled, your motherboard drivers are properly installed and direct x is updated. if you can reboot after this and get to a desktop without an error, go to display properties and try to change the resolution ect. of course, i know just by dragging a window typically.
if it redraws without lag its done right.
if this doesnt work, contact technical support. Who made your card?

I already did the manual search for the nVidia driver, it didn't work before.
But when I tried it again a few hours ago, it did.
I rebooted, and it worked fine.
I rebooted again, didn't work.
So now I found a weird problem, if I hard shutdown my computer (hold the button) and turn it back on, it works! If I do a shutdown + power on, or just reboot, drivers aren't there! I have no idea why this would be caused, but it's pretty crazy.
Biostar made my card, any other ideas?

Just wanted to let everyone know that I solved this problem.
Turns out there was a conflict with another device, an IRQ collision.
If anyone has the same problem, you can fix it by going into your BIOS manager, and loading performance defaults, this worked for me! Thanks for your help everyone. :)
