I'm in need of some free basic editting software for a friend starting an audioblog/podcast. He'll be mostly using mp3 format and he'll need to be able to cut up and join/add other pieces. there is no need for fancy stuff. if you have a good software to suggest I'm all ears...

$$$ shareware music prog. $$$
Why would you post a link to a shareware program that handles wav files (it only claims to convert to mp3 not work directly with them, although it probably can edit mp3 files in some fashion) when the OP asked for a basic, free program to edit and splice mp3 files??? Also, that is the worst UI I have seen in a long, long time.

Seriously... what is this:

Anyhow, adding my vote for Audacity. Free, loads of features, fairly easy to use, and lightweight.
