i made some tests using DXT1-DXT5 compression, disabling it - am so impressed with the huge img quality improvement that can produce.
im using the last rivatuner candidate 8 to manage the texture compressions for direct3d applications and my video card is an MX with 22.50. according to the RT help all nvidia GPUs have known problems working with the direct3d texture compression - something to do with 16bit interpolation and stuff im not going to reproduce here.
is it possible the difference everyone talk about between nvidias and atis be caused by texture compression? am starting to wonder about this.
althought the improvement, performance seems not to be noticeably affected; and the img difference is amazing.
i recommend ppl to try this out.
about ati drivers, do they have the texture compressions enabled or anything working like this? if so, do they have them enabled by default?

I have RT C8 as well. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip:)

"(..)though there is a problem of realization of the texture compression method in 32-bit color with S3TC work in autocompression mode. NVIDIA has some errors in the unpack algorithm; when at 32-bit graphics after unpacking we received 16-bit texels." from Digit-Life

got that about the problem which seems also to be possible when extended for the direct3d texture compressions.

for ppl interested in the matter it should not exist one better article than this one (http://www.digit-life.com/articles/reviews3tcfxt1/index.html).
