AFAIK, there's no way to change the default sample rate for a USB mouse within XP/W2k. I know the default rate is 125Hz for a USB mouse as compared to 60Hz with a PS2 in XP. 3DSpotlight has a good "mouse tweak guide" up, which explains in detail all the available options with the Intellipoint software...and how disabling "USB Error Detection" can improve USB hardware performance significantly.

just wanted to interject- sample rate is how fast the system polls the mouse, and dpi is how well the mouse itself reads the surface it's on. you can change the former but not the latter- if the 125hz of a USB mouse is not sensitive enough for you try getting another USB mouse with a higher dpi.

that's what I had to do anyway.

My mouse had a refresh rate of 100hz in winXP at default, not sure about it being 60hz default?

Note: I didnt install any software.

Is it an optical mouse, if not - get one. I think they have better accuracy.

I hurt my eyes with out in PC World (PC store) and I couldn't see properly for a few seconds after staring at the beam. This was a few years ago.
