I'm itching to order a C2D 6600... I don't know if I can wait till April 22. I'm curious to know if the new chips coming out will have new steppings. I'm talking about the Core 2 Duo E6420 and Core 2 Duo E6320.. these will have 4MB of cache. I'm also thinking about the Xeon 3060... Is anyone going to wait or just say screw and buy before then?

I know 7 people that have seen my new C2D system and want to build their own but are not computer enthusiasts. They are all waiting for the price drop as I had to let them know about it. I myself am waiting for the quads to come down before I buy one and another 8800GTX to go with it. I'm sure there are a ton of people in a similiar situation.

I was very close to picking up an e6600 the other day, but I'm trying to make myself wait till April.

Not in the slightest, I'm quite happy with my 939 system, as all I play is CSS, and it gives me something to tinker with. I'll probably get an Opty 165 and play with that before I go C2D. :)
I will be building a new C2D rig for my brother though, and I'm waiting for a price drop for that.

I'm waiting till April 22nd to build my sister a new computer.
I took the plunge back in September, so at least I don't have to wait :p.

Is there a chart showing the prices of the the C2D? or do we have to wait and see?

I don't know that those are necessarily the most accurate sources, but at least they both seem to agree.

I'm waiting for the April price drop to get my CPU & mobo. I've been picking up some other bits for the build though.
I'm considering a e6700 since it will be the current cost of a e6600 & less than a $100 over the new cost of a e6600.

Likewise, waiting for the price drop and picking up good deals as I find them.

Im waiting for info on those before I buy anything if I dont think the numbers are good enough Ill be waiting for price cuts on c2duo. Regardless I will prob buy at least one c2duo after the price cuts but it might just be for a budget/backup/folding system instead of for a main rig.

Well, mine is a B1 stepping 5... which OCs decently... no ridiculously high clocks. I'd like to get my hands on a B2 stepping 6 and see how it does. Depending on what it clocks to determines which chip is going to go in my gaming rig, and which one gets banished to the folding farm :) ... something that i'm not going to even think about doing until the price drop.

I have been looking still not decided what i will buy but i will wait till after the price drop.

I was thinking of grabbing a Q6600 when the price drops in April. But I might just wait for the 45nm. Not sure yet
I Finally gave up and ordered mine this week. I had the cash ready to go and the only thing holding me back was the fact that I wanted to do a new build with a r600. But after yet another push back I decided to go 8800 GTS and hope I can step up to a 8900 before the 90 days run out.
I now officially hate ATI....go go nVidia

Worst part is having to wait till april 22nd, then waiting a bit longer to see how the new steppings OC for everything. More like may 1st before you can make a good informed decision on how to spend your money.

I'm another that is waiting for the price drop and picking up parts as I find bargains. All I have left to pick up is the cpu, which will probably be an E4300, the mobo and a vid card. In the meantime I'm overhauling my home network and selling extra parts. I'm hoping the prices come down early because everyone knows it's coming...

I already put together my new PC, but I kept my old CPU. I am waiting for April so I can complete my build. In the mean time I have to go and figure out why it won't load past POST...lol
I can barely wait for the Intel price drops. I'm also waiting for the mid range directx 10 cards to be released. April looks sooo far away...

(but yea, might consider when the price drop comes and if its decently priced, i might bite the dust and get a 6600)
Need a Quad core for folding, waiting for a price drop. Q6600 for 531$ that will do it.

I am waiting to build a C2D box. I currently am running an old Socket A with a 6200PNY graphics card. My brother gave me his older socket 939 HP box because he felt so bad. I put $110 into it to get it running. Once April hits and the prices drop I am purchasing me a serious C2D box.

I didn't wait! I couldn't. I'm going to probably buy the 1.86 C2D with 4mb cache or better depending on how much money I have and give my current setup to my dad. He's still running a 1.3ghz or so pentium 4.

I bought both an E6700 and QX6700 at wholesale price about a week ago - 90% of the reason was Crysis for the QX6700 (since Crytek have stated Quad support). I haven't gamed for about 2 years (since FarCry really) and have not upgraded anything since then. After seeing Crysis' latest videos/screenshots a couple weeks ago, I perked up and bought the CPU's and GPU's (8800GTX) now to wait out the Crysis launch. In the meantime I'm having fun on the new systems with Company of Heroes and in a few weeks C&C3, with lots of leftover FPS that has nothing to do (127 minimum FPS in CoH bench).
After becoming aware of the late April Intel price drops, I'll probably dump both chips on ebay 2 the first week in April and then wait out the new prices and re-buy. I'm already invested, nothing else I can do except take a bath of depreciation if I sit on them.
i was waiting for the price drop for e6600. now i might go with e4300 and overclock it. then about 6 months or more (~2 years) i'll upgrade to quadcore ? XD thats an option for me
or go with e6600 and have that last 5 years or so.
I'm planning to replace my old rig (see sig) this year for a new gaming rig, the Intel price drop seems like a good time to switch around.
I'll probably go for either the E6600 or the E6700, depending on the local prices here and wich one fits my needs better.
Unless AMD releases something that pounds the C2Duo's before April my next system will definatly be Intel powered
Waiting for the price drop to upgrade to c2d. Probably to E4300 and then upgrade again when quads come down to reasonable price.

I'm waiting for the 4/22 price drop/introduction of the e4400 to get another folding/crunching rig going again. I have everything I need for that rig except an e4400. I need the 10 multi that the 4400 has because the board I'll be using doesn't overclock past 287 stably. But it was a good way for me to recycle some good DDR ram and an agp vid card.

just out of curiosity (EDIT: ignorance), which processors should we be hunting for after the price drop?

EDIT: is there any reason for an overclocker to go for an e6700 or x6800 rather than a e6600?

I am waiting untill 22nd. That way my brithday will be like 4 months away, and I will convience my parents that this is the birthday present for this year! I am thinking of buying the cheapest C2D there is, and the cheapest mobo/RAM sticks that will allow it to get to 3 GHz. And then I will wait for 8800 gsx to go to $150. Thats all I really need.
...The only 3 reasons I am upgrading is for faster compiling times (my OpenGL program takes like a minute to compile now!), faster rendering times (terragen takes 20 minutes to generate 1 picture at highest detail for my game's skybox) and gaming. Like, I really want to try out STALKER/Crysis/UT3

With the price cuts in April I'm diving into a Quad system. I've held out this long as you can see from my Rig in sig. Say buh-bye to my tax return. Is it April 22nd yet?!?!

Waiting for the price to drop as well. I want to get quad core if the price drops within $500~$600. If not, then a duo core e6600 will work for me with an EVGA 680i MB.

so will these prices remain like this after april? i have to wait till october to get a e6600.
They sure will. Prices may even go further down by then. I know AMD should even have a counter to the Core 2 Duo out by that time.

03-12-07, 12:56 AM
prices will be lower by Oct.. C2D could very well be overshadowed by then by new CPU's :p
I'm thinking about selling the E6400 to put towards a Q6400. Then again, it wouldn't actually do anything since I barely use the second core as it is so maybe not. It's just so cool. I want it.:bday:
Anyone know if the Xeon processors are going to enjoy the same kind of drastic price drop in April?

I'd save yourself quite a bit of money and go with the e6600. the e6600 is going to be 1/3 the price, and will clock around the same as the x6800. The only major difference between the two is the unlocked multi. Plus i don't see the x6800 dropping too much in price... usually the CPUs below the extreme see price cuts, not the extreme itself.

Awesome, I havent been around too much and was unsure of what time the price drops would take place
since its pretty close, i may wait to build my rig
