OK my friend has a dell xps gen 4 if im not mistaken and hes looking for a cheaper performance upgrade in the future. now i kno intel prices are dropping on the 22nd of april and the pentium D 945 would be an exelent choice for him. but im wondering if the board supports it. The board has a 925XE chipset. the chipset supports 1066fsb but i dunno if it supports dual core.. it dose support hyperthreading considering that the intel p4 650 he has in it is HT... but i dunno if that means n e thing.

thnx guys...

the 925 chipset doesnt support pentium D, you'll need atleast a i945 chipset.

the 925 chipset doesnt support pentium D, you'll need atleast a i945 chipset. what are you talking about. That board take a Pentium D 65nm chip, but it can't use a Core 2 chip.

The list of chipsets supporting Pentium D CPUs has been revealed for a quite a while now. It includes the new Intel 955X and Intel 945P/G, and NVIDIA nForce4 SLI (Intel Edition). The previous generation chipsets, i925/i915, do not support dual-core processors. However, our tests showed that the situation with Pentium D 820 is somewhat different.

as far as i know that chip is not droping that much. maby 50 bucks putting at the 125 range. aside from the extreme ones the 945 is the top dual core by then. others (940, 950, 960) will be end of life

Must be a tweaked i925 chipset to work with it. The latest i925 chipset mite support pentium D but when they first cameout they didnt.
