Yes, the AAR program has not put a lot on our table, but if we are getting donated parts for basically free, and have a willing Host to run the rig, it's free points and it's all about the science anyway.

and you make a good point, BAR.
Getting our Team members together to build rigs for those who want to go further.

I see a small problem with this, I'll use ChasR as an example, just to pick on him a bit (nothing personal Bro).

ChasR, mas points producer, Uber Science contributor, wants 3 more C2D rigs, do we throw in and help build them for him?

Or do we contribute to the part time Folder who sees an oportunity to get a new rig on the cheap?

Or the Honest guy who wants to update his miniture room microware (Pressy) that is putting out a fair amount of ppd, but just can't take the heat anymore?

Or the guy who is not putting out a lot of ppd, and really wants to update his system to something more this century?

Very hard to decide. but I'm just throwing this out there, because I know we are all not made of money and don't want to see one small group of people being the only ones forking over the $$ all the time.

I like the donated parts. If someone wants to purchase something new & donate it to the AAR program, that isn't out of the question either.

And I'm sure, we would get a better responce (overwhelming I'm positive) if we had newer parts to put rigs together with too. Which is also a current problem.

-we're 2 rigs short ATM.

But, that's just some of my thoughts.

There are quite a few scenarios you pose WII.

To me the principle behind the donations falls into 2 categories:

1) I am willing to donate hardware or the equalent in $ that i would otherwize sell ... for the purpose of producing more folding for T32. Rigs built this way should fold (at least part time) under a AAR or BAR id for T32.

2) i have surplus equipment that i can't be bothered selling (probably because it it not worth much, or is expensive to ship) and i am willing to donate to anyone needy/worthy, regardless of whether it folds or not under an AAR id ... an active T32 folder trying to build up their farm easily meets this criteria.

I think i fall mostly into the first category ... all the stuff i have bought in my 2 years of folding is relatively current, and somewhat high end. All of it has some resale value, and i at least partially fund my farm upgrades by selling off these lowest producers. But I am also willing to donate some to the cause.

I do have some stuff that will cost more to ship than it might be worth. I am happy to donate this without strings to fellow needy T32 folders, and if there or none, then any folder. But for the most part, this only makes sense when people are local or at least in canada.
Stuff like cases, lowend psu's, older hsf's - anyone feel free to PM me on this ... i have 5/6 cases to get rid of. And a couple of complete piii 1 ghz/celeron rigs.

hmmmm. I like the BAR idea, but I dont think it should go for individual's points. I was thinking more of a sub-team, just for BARs and AARs...I think that would be cool, we could see the combined effort of the forum together to fold...you know what I mean? We're dedicated to folding so much, we'll donate the $10 we can spare, even though we can't throw up the $400 for a new rig...etc...

Problem with a subteam is you lose visibility to the individual rigs. We don't want to be in the policing business, but the visibilty is uesful all round. :)

IMO the current naming system is adequate. If you are willing to host a machine, then it should be setup to fold for the team, not yourself. Individual names for each machine are needed to make sure the machine is still folding.

ok then, my opinion is now changed on the subject.
