View Full Version : How to have different & application controlled 2D & 3D clocking with 8800???

Hi!
I am in a mess in trying to set downclocked frequencies for desktop use with my 8800GTX and activate default stock clock while in games.
I have tried RivaTuler, ATiTool, "new" stile NVidia Control Panel profile manager and even Coolbits to manage with the profile manager of the "classic" NVidia Control Panel.

RivaTuner works good, but while in game I have continous bumping between 2D and 3D frequencies. Here are a couple of shots:

If I try to use desktop shortcuts to load the profiles manually, the GPU and RAM does not change both, but only the GPU or the RAM changes.

In ATiTool I am able to set an executalbe list with witch activate the 3D profile, but even here the GPU and RAM does not change both contemporary: only the GPU changes while the RAM stays at the default stock clock.
The new lower RAM frequency does not even get saved in a new profile: it remains at default stock even if I have set it to a different one.

In the "new" NVidia Control Panel there is a nice profile manager, but unfortunately the previously saved profile wont load because I get an error:

nTuneServer:
There has been problem C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\Profiles\new.nsu

Last, I have tried to load the "classic" NVidia Control Panel with Coolbits, but even here I get problems: I am not able to save new profiles.
The just disappear right after having saved.

Now.... is there a way to manage REAL dynamic overclocking??
Even application controlled would be good.
Thank you all!

whats wrong with having the same clocks all the time... it looks like ur temps dont get much past 60*c which is very good.

How can you say that my temps don't get much past 60°C???

I like to have very loooow fan speed in desktop use, like downloading, emailing and watching movies.
My temps as stock default 576/1800 are near a little under 70°C in idle mode, while in games I can reach 80°C or even more.
With profiles I would set a high fan speed in games because I don't hear it due to the game sounds.
I have a m-ATX case, and keeping a low clock on both GPU and RAM while doing the things mentioned up here, I can reach 50°C with no noise at all.
I made my tests with RivaTuner, but it does not keep the "in game" frequency (default stock) still. It's like while gaming I have continous bumping between 3D and 2D situations.

If someone knows why RivaTuner does that or why nTune gives errors managing with saved profiles, or does know some extra way to have clock profiles controlled by applications execution, please let me know.

I'm not sure about ATI Tray Tools' support for nVidia cards, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to give that a shot. It *might* support your 8800. With my X1900 ATT's handling of game profiles was superb... like I said, I don't know if it will work or not, but its worth a try

As I said:

..........

This damn RAM frequency does what it wants with all program!!!
Is it maybe some NVidia drivers issue??

dunno what to tell ya... my temps on my 8800gts never get over 70*c... all i can say is better case flow.

RivaTuner doesn't report the correct temps. ATiTool 0.26 or newer seems correct. Getting idle and load temps within a few degrees of each other on the stock cooler is just illogical and represents misreported temps.

really... than care to explain why rivatuner and ati tool, and ntune (not shown) display the exact same temps?

Are 56C and 70C 'within a few degrees of each other' in your opinion? Plus it looks like you're at stock clocks according to ATiTool in your load screenshot, that would explain your relatively low load temp compared to others.

Guess I was wrong saying RivaTuner before, I should have said nTune. I had only paid attention to ATiTool for checking temps myself. The scales in the OP pics make it hard to tell when things change at all heh.

yes im running at stock clocks and i never said my idle and load temps were close to one another.... my previous post was to show that temps reported by rivatuner were acurate..

btw i did the same dealio with clocks of 600/1900 and i got like 6*c higher on load and 1*c higher on idle

Ok... and about using profiles??
Does one of you manage with profiles with some of these softwares??
