Just wondering what the thoughts are on the X-FI cards. I've been reading where a lot of people are having problems with them. Should I keep my Audigy 2 ZS, or take the X-FI plunge?

The XtremeGamer is a worthy upgrade compaired to your Audigy 2 ZS.

Even with all of the problems people are having with the NForce4 boards?

The X-FI sounds like a great card, but I'm worried after reading of all of the problems people are having. It also doesn't instill confidence that Creative Labs is passing the blame onto Nvidia.

I have the same board as you, same bios and live in the same area ; ) and I have no problems with my X-Fi.

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to go ahead and pick one up. Is there any real difference between the Gamer, and the Fatal1ty, other than the X-Ram? I've heard the X-Ram doesn't really make a difference with todays games.

there is a big difference in games between onboard and an audigy 2zs/xfi
onboards dont support hardware acceleration like the audigy series does..i noticed the vast differences in BF2/BF2142

Does the X-ram really make a difference in today's game though?

Actually, you're mistaken

It is exactly the same as Extreme music but WITH X-Ram

It is exactly the same as Gaytal1ty Pro but without the front panel

Again guys, is there any difference in sound quality between the gamer, and the fatal1ty. I know what the physical differences are, I'm just wondering about sound quality and if the x-ram makes any difference.

the SQ will be the same. they all use the same caps, op-amps and caps except for the xtreme audio. that one uses lesser components and has lesser SQ. the elite pro uses a better DAC then the other cards so it would have the best SQ.

the differences in XRAM are only in the amount. the xtreme music still has XRAM, just less of it then the xtreme gamer and fatality.

There will only be a difference if the specific game is specifically coded to use the XRAM. So for most games there is no difference at all. for games specifically coded there is a slight difference.

Soloz2,
thanks, that's more along the lines of what I was looking for!

np. glad I could be of help!

As for SQ. there are mods you can do to the xfi cards that bring the analogue output about on par to some $1000 external DACs that I am seriously considering doing to my xfi. I currently use the digital out to an external DAC, and there are upgrade mods for the digital output, but I might just go for the analogue mods myself. They consist of recapping the card and swapping the op-amps. If you are good with a soldering iron they are not hard to do.

Probably a little out of my comfort zone, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks again.

same here, the only standalone card i have owned is a sound blaster live 5.1. It doesn't sound any different from any onboard sounds now aday. Though it's old so...still I can't imagine if there's any difference new cards vs onboard. Hence i'm using onboard :bday: .

OK, I got the X-FI XtremeGamer on the way! I was able to get enough out of my Audigy 2ZS that it only cost me 15$ after shipping!!! Gotta love E-bay!

Kind of an old thread, but I thought it might be good to mention for anyone browsing that the XtremeGamer has connectors for case front audio jacks. The Gaytal1ty does NOT, it only has the Creative proprietary connector to use with their craptastic front panel.

I -almost- did too, but thankfully I refuse to buy anything with that retarded Faytal1ty branding and went with the Xtremegamer by default. When I found that out, boy was I relieved. Sucks you got burned. :(
