Playstation Home was recently announced at GDC, looks pretty awesome IMO. It's a giant online world for free used to meet new people and join their games and or virtual space. It's funny because a few months ago I told a friend they should have a game like this.

IMO it's a bit more useful than SecondLife. With Playstation Home, you can meet other Playstation 3 owners, see what games they have, and join a game with them. There's also features similar to Myspace supposedly.
I'm about to watch the trailer on it, but the way I think of it is that it will be a better way for Playstation 3 owners to connect.
EDIT: just saw the trailer, I'm pretty impressed. One thing I like about it is the graphics...I haven't seen SecondLife's graphics, but I doubt they anywhere near as good.
A great way for SONY to produce money... but it's just a pretty Second-Life, an aimless moneywaster... and a great chat room.
Lag anyone?

I'm going to say the servers will be Sony run...no problem w/ lag, and there will be multiple "Worlds".
The Trailer says it's free, but if there is any subscription services like Second-Life...I'd feel sorry for the idiots who would use it.
Otherwise I'm stoked.

Not nearly the same as Second Life. The point of this is meet people setup events and if you like people you can instantly join games with them. You can also do things like upload your HDD videos to the TV in your house and some stuff they said is coming later like they will have events and little movie theaters that people can use to announce games, have full movies, or have meetings also sounds like tons of stuff coming even later like apparently a type of virtual pet and news system. I played Second Life and it was all about creating content, this is not. I would actually compare this a lot more to a game called "There" however this sounds a whole lot better.
Here is another video about the whole PS universe. Its a game like Linerider but of course much more in depth. http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=17579

that video looks pretty cool i can't wait...the great thing about ps3 is that every console has a hd, so if devs want to add content they dont have to worry about who has a hd and who doesnt. very dynamic

Gee Pyro, I can only think of 3 people who get REALLY upset when anything Anti-Sony is posted. I can however think of about 20 who post anti-Sony comments, myself being public enemy #1.
Perhaps he could've made it more clear but I think his "lag" comment was referring to how much BETTER the PS3 looks than the PC/MAC SecondLife and once you get a more than a few people roaming around an area in SecondLife that has any structures or decorations of any kind then the lag is EXTREMELY bad. This is due to server load as well as and probably mainly bandwidth. I think he was making a fair comparison as something that looks MUCH better than SecondLife will surely take a MUCH GREATER server load and MUCH MUCH more bandwidth. Perhaps Sony will have the backbone (referring to bandwidth, not spines) to support that great server and bandwidth demand but will the users? Somebody's 3mbs or 6mbs DSL/Cable line may not be able to handle it.
As far as the money-making comment goes. That is what SecondLife is all about is commerce and making money. He probably just mistakenly thought this was a PS3 clone of that and didn't read the article carefully enough. You can point that out and correct him in a rational way without being so defensive and rude.
As far as calling him a Troll.... don't throw stones in a glass house and judge not lest ye be judged. The 3 Sony-defenders I'm referring to are a little quick to fly the flag and all too quick to get angry and make inflammatory remarks whenever there is a comment directed at Sony and mainly the PS3 that those 3 perceive as being negative. Who's the true Troll, the one who makes a comment that may be perceived as negative or the one who reads too much into said comment, blasts the poster and is quick to scream "TROLL" at the top of his/her lungs?

I hope they will have a normal menu based interface as well, not everybody (myself included) will want to wander around with a virtual avatar.

To split it up they will in time be adding new areas and of course your own private sections. As for stuff to do you can of course show off your house, trophies, go see a movie, but mainly it's to socialize, which as almost everyone knows going off Myspace and TXTing people love to talk to others. The old game I spoke of called "There" was much like this however you could through parties, go hoverboarding, stuff like that and it never got old, so hopefully they add at least the party aspect in. Was reading an old article from 06-03-2005 and apparently Home was announced way back then to have all these features, funny how everyone forgot.
