I have two friends who want pretty good video cards. I know little things about video cards, but not too much. So I ask you guyz who have it. Basically 1 of my friend is going to use it to play Rogue Spear or Ghost Recon and my other friend wants it for games and dvd playback. So let me know what you guyz thing is a good bang for the buck.

check out my post below called my guide for buying a video card it has a current listing of prices and performance for most mainstream video cards, for your case i suggest an ATI Radeon32mbDDR, a Visiontek GTS-V, or a KyroII, all will do the job for around 65$...

The Radeon 8500 sounds like what your friends might want. The DVD playback is great, and its gaming is pretty good. The NVidia's are great for games, but their DVD playback isn't as good as the Radeons. It's also more expensive than the Radeon

for playing Rogue Spear? heck, a Voodoo3 sounds like what his friend might need...

For the one who wants DVD playback the choice is easy. An ATI card. I personally wouldn't go with the 7500 because I think it's overpriced for it's performance.
For the one that wants just gaming I'd say a GeForce2 of some sorts. For under $100 I'd say the MX400. Stay away from the MX200. The GeForce2GTS,Pro, or Ti's are all good cards. I got a VisiontekTi right now and am very pleased with it for gaming. It's $150 in stores. The Gainward Geforce2 Ti500 is also a very nice card for the price. If he wants top of the line for some reason then go with the Radeon8500 IF if he knows more about computers because it'll probably give him some trouble in compatability for a little while unless drivers have been updated lately and i didn't hear about it. Other than the Radeon8500 I'd go for the GeForce3ti200 or the regular GeForce3.

personally i dont think any mx is worth it when you can get a GTS or a 32mbDDr Radeon for 14$ more....for DVD get the Radeon32bDDR, for gaming get Geforce2GTS....go to www.pricewatch.com .......also have you checked prices lately Hitman?
Gts-65$, MX400-52$
Radeon7500-108$, Geforce2Ti-100$
i think the price/performance on both the GTS and the 7500 easily beat the Ti and the MX...just my opinion thoiugh :D

I was actually reffering to instore prices but yes you are correct on pricewatch they are cheaper(of course). From what I've seen of the 7500 i wasn't too impressed with it. Yes the GTS is a nice card and i did recommend it. However in madonion i get 1000 more than my bro's gts and he has a faster processor. I'm know he asked for the better bang for the buck but i included all the way up to the 8500 and gf3ti500 because 1)he might have a little extra cash. 2)any other ppl reading this might be thinking more expensive cards. These are just my opinions and the reasoning behind my post.

yes Funnyperson 1 is correct the 7500 in most reviews is said to be faster than the Geforce 2 and = and in some applications faster than an Ultra.
Once iot is overclocked it is the faster card even if you overclock the Ultra plus you get newer technology. It flat out is a better buy.
I do not say this cause I own one but after reading many reviews and speaking emailing those that reviewed it and asking for their personal opinion.

Too play what this guy wants, Ghost Recon and Rogue Spear plus DVD playback all that is needed is a Kyro II or aRradeon 32 DDR.
No reason to suggest a $200 + video cards for those needs.

I see that the Radeon 32 DDR is a very good deal. But what would be a bit above that? How does a Gainward Geforce 2 Pro compare? Or VisionTek Geforce 2 GTS?

All of those cards are good cards. You'll be fine with any of em.
The Geforce's will be faster than the Radeon, but not by too much.
Depends on the price's of em, you going to buy online?

Yeah I'm going to buy online. Also is it better if the card has more megabits? Because the Radeon 32ddr compared to others like the Gainward 64mbs?
