I'm thinking about buying the HD-DVD xbox 360 drive to play HD movies on my PC and I was wondering what all is involved in this? I know that the HD-DVD drive itself is USB but I don't know what else I will need? will Windows XP see the drive just fine? also, what software DVD player will I need to watch HD movies?

any info or suggestions will be appreciated.

yeah i got mine working peachy when i got the drive like a month ago
you'll have to aquire the software illegally however(not going to talk about it here) so the only player that works is one that's budnled oem with notebooks.
and not only that, but it can only output like 600p or something like that

There is 2 drivers that need to be installed and I downloaded the driver pack. Neither of them worked. I tried in both XP PRO SP2 and Media Center 2005. There have been others say they have got it to work, but I wouldn't depend on it. Anyway, there is 2 or 3 pieces of software now that will play the HD-DVDs. The one that comes to mind right away is Power DVD-HD.

Negative. There is ONE driver that is needed. It was common when it was first released and has become very scarce, thanks to MS. I was able to relocate it by searching in yahoo.

The driver is a HD DVD UDF reader. It is simply a .dll and a .inf file and nothing more.

I don't know the legality of having/downloading so I am not going to explain anything further.

Well, I may have not been clear, what I mean to say is that there are 2 devices in the device manager to install the driver for, it is true that there is one driver file but there are TWO devices in the device manager. Anyway, I couldn't get it to install on EITHER device.

Those are memory units in the device manager, and there are no drivers for them. If you installed the .dll file and the .inf and have a compatible HD-DVD software decoding program (cyberlink, windvd) it should work.

I did have an issue where I had to uninstall Powerdvd because it installed the blu-ray version on default. I had to uninstall it, install the driver, and then install Powerdvd again. After this it worked just fine.

Hope this helps.
