The site isn't accepting registrations yet, but check back feverishly. I recommend every 5 minutes, but daily will do for some ;)

Could we use this thread to talk about what we think about this feature/service?

This concept sounds so silly to me and I don't understand why so many gamers are going bonkers about it. Could someone here from an anticipatory perspective enlighten me?

I think there's a lot of ppl that would think it's pretty cool. I actually think the idea is pretty cool, probably not something I'd use more than a few times, but it's cool.

When i heard them talking about it on G4 they were saying you could do things like (in the virtual Home) go to your friends house and you could listen to their music and watch their videos (the music and videos they have on their PS3 IRL) ...that's pretty sweet I think.

All the minigames and arcade stuff is cool also.

It's definitely something I'd like to try, perhaps if I had the money and was looking to buy a console i might consider it in my purchase (although VERY lightly). I think the biggest deal is that x360 has more games, more users, easier multiplayer. not an easy battle for PS3 when they come out with the same (not better) product a year later than the other guys.

Well it's because people like to socialize basically. Just think how big Aim, Myspace, TXTing, Second Life, all have become. Second Life for example just today has had over 1.5 million US dollars spent in transactions between players and the creators of the game which considering it's a free game to play is pretty impressive. Besides that though it does have some cool features, like streaming anything on your HDD to your own private TV screen/Music Box, showing off your trophies, watch movies and press confrences, playing Pool, Bowling, or other little games with people in Home, but mainly the point of meeting new people and instantly launching games from Home with those people you just met.

/\Here is a tool that will tell you if the site has changed or not, http://check4change.mozdev.org/. Its not perfect but has potential. Also Cliffy B the creator of Gears of War and Unreal Tournament said he liked Home partially for that reason alone, that it can attract the female/girlfriend audience that other games fail to get.

Cliffy B: I think its a very cool and exciting direction and I think there tends to be a mentality in video games to kind of go more hard core, more badass more over the top and larger scale and crazier and to do something like "Okay, this is my little virtual home and I can hang out with other people and do stuff that’s very simple." I think helps to expand the market in ways that ... you know, it’s the girlfriend factor, man.

You know you can totally see your girlfriend getting into all those games and those experiences and really help to make the PS3 a hub for the home. So, I think Sony is going in a really exciting direction. It’s not like, you know, Mark Rein saying to me, "It’s not like Sony just made that entire system up yesterday. They've clearly been working on it for a long time.”
