Finally pulled the trigger on my new system...

Thoughts and Reasoning
I’m not going for a massive overclock. I’ll be stoked with 8*400=3.2 with memory at 5 5 5 15 running 1:1. At these settings, the memory is running in spec. Of course, I’ll push it just to see what it will do. My power supply and heatsink should arrive on Monday. I’m pretty excited about this build. I’m coming from an Abit AN7, Athlon XP 2500, and 512MBs of Kingston HyperX DDR. This should be a step up, eh?
Long post… Making up for years and years of lurking!

Thoughts and Reasoning
Intel E6600 - Can’t go wrong here…
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 - I will never run SLI/Crossfire. I like the three PCI slots and legacy ports. It’s got S/PDIF IN which is rare. (…and I need.) I’ve read many good reviews concerning overclocking. I just remember the days when I checked NewEgg’s refurb section every night when they used to practically give stuff away. There was so much GigaByte stuff in there it turned me off to the brand. This will be my first GigaByte product. I got the latest Rev. 3.3 board so we’ll see how it goes.
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ – First, thanks to dominick32 for being the guinea pig! I know I’m going to take a bath on this deal. I think dominick32 already lost $100 when the price dropped from $529 to $429. I need this RAM for VPC 2007 / VMWare. I plan on running many virtual guest OSes at once. When you think about it, it’s cheaper than four separate computers with 2 gigs each and a KVM switch. (less space too!) So the real question everyone wants to know: how does it handle overclocking? Stay tuned!
Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200.10 ST3320620AS – Good…nothing special. I plan on running a second hard drive externally through eSATA. Gotta let the credit card cool off first.
ENERMAX ECA3052B – For a $65 dollar case, this thing is beautiful. First, I wanted USB and audio ports on the top! Second, no doors! And third, I like my cases to look subtle. I dislike gawdy, pimped out, bling, alien space craft cases. This thing fits the bill. As a bonus, I’ve got this massive 250mm fan and front side eSATA. The only downside of the fan is my new heatsink might not fit. The case is roomy and very, very easy to work with.
MSI GeForce 6600 – I know… You’re all going WTH?!? I struggled with this one for a little bit. I could get a 7600GS for $40 more and 7900GS for $80 more. Here are the games I play in alphabetical order: CS 1.6. Once in a while I bring up MAME to kick it old school. As the DX10 cards drop, who knows…
SAMSUNG SH-S183L – I’m 100% SATA baby! If it gives me any problems, I’ve got plenty of ATA drives around.
Microsoft XP Pro x64 – Necessary to support 8GB of memory. The reviews on NewEgg were claiming they had a hard time registering for the Vista upgrade. I didn’t have a problem. We’ll see if I get my upgrade. (I better because they already charged me for shipping.)
SAMSUNG Floppy – who cares…
Rosewill RCX-Z3 – Don’t laugh! This shipped from NewEgg’s TN warehouse and hasn’t arrived yet. I’ve installed the stock cooling so I can do a comparison.
Corsair CMPSU-520HX – I was going to go with something cheaper but you guys on this forum talked me out of it. I hope you’re all happy. (I hope I’m happy!) This hasn’t arrived yet either.
