View Full Version : Chipset cooler better than Blorb?

I'm thinking of changing both my graphics card and the Norhbridge HSFs. The Blorb just doesn't look that effective. Is there something better that will fit? I do have a couple of inches of clearance under my graphics card, so that's not a big issue. I just don't have enough clearance to put a really big HSF on there.

Any suggestions for some effective cooling?

anything is better than the stock one provided... is it bigger? faster? looks like btter craftsmanship? then it should be good to go.....

queston for those who do know...

does the northbridge really get THAT hot? mine never feels hot.

Either the Blorb or the Corb will do. As for the Northbridge I really don't think it gets that hot, but you can get a higher FSB when cooling it.

I think the Corb will do a good job, on the North bridge.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I checked out the Corb and it looks like it might cool a bit better than what is already on mine. The Blorb looks a bit anemic compared to the stock hsf's that come on my northbridge and gpu. I'll get a couple of the Corbs for those.

What do you guys think of the Thermaltake active memory coolers. I like the idea. I might just get some ram heat spreaders and get a little beefier fan and mount it myslef. My ram is running at about 30 C, so I was wondering if that would be of much help for ocing.

Don't know about the Corb, but I've used the Blorb a couple of times for NorthBridge and GPU cooling. cools well, but it's a bit noisy.

Defenitely you can squeeze normally more FSB out of it by active cooling of the Northbridge.

Titan has a new copper heatsink/fan chipset cooler. You can find a review about it somewhere at www.overclockers.com. Seems this set cools the NB well and does not produce a lot of noise. I bought one, but have not used it yet.

I, too, have been asking this same question for awhile. I had a BlueOrb on my GF3 and it was noisy from the start, and got noisier from there. Cooled ok I guess but not what I expected. What I am trying now is I picked up a couple of hsf units for a 486 from local store. I have one lapped and just put on the video card. Works fine but have not tried any oc'ng of the card and haven't stressed it much yet. The one thing that stands out is the Sunon fan is silent in operation on this heatsink. Of the 10 fans that were in my system, the Orb was by far the loudest. I hope to get the one finished and on the NB tonite and see if I can get beyond the 150 fsb that I am now at. The NB on my MSI is not actively cooled at the moment, just the sink with ASII. I thought about the Titans, but the tinkerer in me went this way instead. But, if I don't get the results I will try the Titans.
