Do these new Core2 Duo's come with HT? I've been out of the loop for a while, and am looking to build a new system.
Probably an E6600 and a P5B-E.
Do any of these new CPU's have HT? (Two logical and two virtual CPU's would be kick ass.)
To my knowledge there are no Core2's with HT and is not on the Intel roadmap. (Although some are guessing Intel is saving this feature for later Core2's)
The only dual-core chips with HT are the Pentium Extreme Edition's. (Core2 chips are still better)

There is some rumor that HT is comming back on nehaiam CPU's but its out on C2D's (based on design it would be fairly useless for C2D's the pipeline is too short)
It's only on the Core 2 Extreme Edition (think it's X6800)...

basically HT was a temp solution "i think" until dual core cpu's came out, now that they are up to quad core, is HT really needed?

As Greenmaji stated, none of the current core2duo/quad processors have hyperthreading, not even the extreme edition.
As for its use, the secondary rig in my sig was my primary for 3 years, and even under heavy multitasking I was never able to discern any real difference between HT enabled and not.

Hyperthreading will make a comeback. When Woodcrest was about to be released one fo the Intel dev was saying how for now all processors would be unified, but as C2D took off, while the base architecture would remain the same, the Mobile/Desktop/Server parts would add additional features that the others would not have. For example a mobile chip would integrate more power saving features than the desktop, as your more worried about battery power with a mobile chip. He also mentioned the key parts of the netburst architecture that may have been seen to no real advantage would make their comeback improved, when the architecture was better suited for them.
