Transport Hard Disk

I want to take my hard disk with me during an airplane flight.

What precautions should I take to avoid damage to the hard disk or data?

I was thinking about encapsulating the hard disk with something to try to avoid damage during motion. What, other than a comercial hard disk enclosure, would be good?

Would airport security scanners in United States of America be a problem?

buy a little handgun case..

and throw your hard drive into it. makes it look weird but it should protect it pretty well.
