I had 2 WD HDDs in my old 'puter: 2Gig (R.I.P) & (installed now) 4.3Gig HDD. the first died after I repartitioned it... Lots of clicks, bad block, not willing to run FDISK properly...
Now the 4.3Gig gives me problems... When I fireup the PC, it start normally, but when it gets to its highest speed. It just starts to a very high pitch sound, & the comp can't recognize it...
Do you think I can do something to fix this problem?

Don't even try. If its failing now, its just gonna get worse. Besides, there isn't much that can be done to fix HDs, and at the prices they are selling for these days, just put in a 40 gig.

I've had a few WD's that had the click of death for a long time, but they all eventually died.
I'd just go with a new Maxtor.

That 4.3Gigger prolly is under 3 years right? Most HDD's have a 3 year warranty so maybe you can still RMA it. I had to RMA a 5.1Gig Quantum a while ago and payed a little extra for a larger 10Gig drive cuz the 5.1Gig wasn't available anymore.
