Hello all,

How much benefit would I receive by going RAID with 2X 160GB 7200.7 vs just one 7200.10 320 Perp drive?

Would it be equal in that the 320 is new version with all the new tech? Keeping in mind I also only have a 150gb/s SATA connection.

This will be going in the RIG below, which is mainly used for gaming.

Two 7200.7s will give you a higher STR, while a single 7200.10 will give you a faster seek time.

If you're mainly working with large files and keep your drive defragmented, then two 7200.7s would probably suit you best.

If you're accessing smaller files spread out around the platter(s) then the 7200.10 would be faster.

It really depends on how you use your computer.

Thanks for the reply,

The computer is mainly going to be used for playing video games, such as HL2, CS:S,Q4, Oblivion, S.T.A.L.K.E.R (soon), Supreme Commander, and MotogpURT.

I would mainly like quicker load times for all the games.

Thanks,

The single drive is probably going to be better for your usage.

Possible, but this isn't always true. If your loading a game with big files, RAID0 is your friend, if your loading tons of little files, the single drive is your friend. But as stated before, it all comes down to what your playing. I think the throughput of the RAID0 makes up for its lack in seek time.

Laymens terms, I would go with the RAID.

Thanks for replies all,

Now, does having the 7200.10 tech make a big difference compared to the 7200.7 old tech?
