Hi,
I was curious, I was playing with a Dell laptop earlier today. I ran Superpi on it the laptop (2ghz C2D, Vista, 1 gig of ram).
The results were: 1mb superpi
2ghz C2D Laptop - 27 seconds
4ghz Dual Core Desktop - 42 seconds
I was curious why there would be that much of a speed difference. I know the C2D is faster at 2ghz than 4ghz (dc) but thats a big difference.
Is Superpi the main difference between the two? It got me thinking that a C2D processor would be even better.
Thanks,
Rich
Of course the C2D is better. It's a whole different technology which is better, faster, and more efficient in every way.

I guess i was a bit surprised since laptops (in the past) tended to be much slower than desktops.
What I was asking, is it just superpi thats faster at those two speeds? In "real world" performance, is a C2D @ 2ghz always faster than a DC at 4ghz?

InkFX - is your PC twice @ 3.7ghz C2D twice as fast as my 4ghz DC in every regard?

All C2D are faster than the fastest Pentium D or AMD x2 chips, even at stock for the C2D, for almost every program.
The adjectives are only there as a disclaimer in case I've overlooked anything.

Probably so. Like I said, the C2D is brand new. It's like going from a bike to a Hyabusa.

I could probably stick this thing at stock and still perform better. At 3.7Ghz the benchmarks aren't even in the same ballpark.
Here is a SuperPi run at 3.7Ghz. I can do better, I just havn't played with it all to much.

Ink, shouldn't you be getting ~13s super pi 1m?

No. I wish, though.

if he had a e6600 like YOU, then maybe. to get ~13s on a 2mb chip, you need ~4000mhz.

42 sec with 4Ghz duel core seems a little slow. I know the C2d will def. win but my old 3.2 pressy @4.1Ghz would do 30 sec.
