ok so here is the laptop http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115284R and it says that it has a WLAN, Modem, and Gigabit LAN. What is Gigabit LAN, and how is it different from regular LAN? because I have a linksys Router (wired) and I was hopeing that a Gigabit LAN would work with my Router. The wRouter is a BEFSR41 type. so please help me, if you need any more information, please ask.

1000mb (mega bits), instead of 100Mb.
8 bits to a byte.
So in theory, gigabit can do 125MB /s (mega bytes a second)
100Mb can do 12.5 MB a second.
10Mb can do 1.25 MB a second.
Wireless lan 54Mb can do 6.75 MB a second.
But your network has to be able to sustain that type of throughput.
Most ISP's can't go higher than 30MB a second, and thats with Optonline with boost.

Yes and Optimum online boost is amazing =).
just to add, by theory he says those speeds, they say ___MB/s but you never get that true speed. you get a little under. (in terms of wireless, LAN is pretty good.) remember Gigabit is only useful if you either have 100Mb+ internet, and/or you want to lan pc's under one network at high speeds.

I have AT&T SBC Yahoo DSL, so would I be able to use that with my Router to connect the Laptop? Also what is a Docking Port/Staion?

Yea sure why not. its backwards compatible. Docking port/station is just a port replicator. i wasted my money in getting one. its just a fast way in connecting your laptop stuff. so instead of pluging in your printer internet etc you just plug one usb that is connected to everything else. kinda pointless and its slow.

Yah Ethernet has an overhead of about 30%. so 100 Mbits becomes 70 Mbits/8 for standard 100. (30% is an average, and it may have been improved in the last couple years..)
I usally go 1000MBits=100MBytes= 70 MB/s transfer... which is what I got (however I was also HDD limited on the one machine.. so...)

yea most hdds can't read/write at 70MBPS unless raided.
