I have a problem...
I would like to convert NTFS to FAT 32, but in order to do that i have to run a prog to do it , right?
I have Win XP (Swedish), with PQ Magic 7 itīs possible to convert , but only if the language is the same as PQ Magic.
And that itīs not , itīs in English so i would get corrupted files or something , that was what the Warning message told me in PQ.
Now i wounder if Win XP or the Win XP Install CD would be able to convert my NTFS to FAT 32.
Why is because i want a dual boot sys were i can access files from all partitions.
And one more question, why NTFS when FAT 32 work just as well?? or is NTFS better in any way, for NT?
/ Thanx . . .

The progam you have to run is fdisk or partition magic. Windows can convert fat 32 to ntfs but not back the other way.

So in FDISK i can make the convertion , without a format of the partition ???
And is there any risk of file corruption?

fdisk will remove all info from your hard drive. There is a program out that will convert ntfs back to fat, unfortunately I can't remember the name of it. =(

I know you can convert FAT to NTFS, but I was told that you couldn't convert NTFS to FAT without losing all of your data.

I didnt read it right and posted the convert command and stuff on ntfs.
This being said why do you want to go from ntfs to fat32???
I dont think you can convert to fat32. I think the best thing to do would repartition a section out of your hd as fat32 using PM7. Install win98 (or whatever you plan) in that and reinstall any shared apps in there, and move the shared files in there as well.
NTFS is much better. I have always used fat32 and just upgraded to XP pro from 98se. I originally did a fat32 upgrade. Then about a week later did a fat32 to ntfs conversion and when this semester is over a reformat and pure ntfs install. I love the security settings down to an individual file that ntfs offers (loved my nt4 adminstration class I took 2 yrs ago but never got you play with it since then).
I think the repartitioning of a hard drive would be your best bet. Rip out a new partititon with partition magic as ntfs then reformat that blank partition as fat32. Does that sound right?

FDISK will re paryition your hard disk and destroy any data on the hard disk. partition magic will convert it back to fat32 if you have enough free space available on the drive.
what is the command to change fat32 to ntfs and save the data in NT/XP?
ConvertConverts FAT and FAT32 volumes to NTFS.
Syntax
convert /fs:ntfs [/cvtarea:FileName] [/nosecurity] [/x]
This is explained in the help files in WinXP. Just search help for convert FAT to NTFS.
