mine are p3-700s/100. when i oc, only one oc'd cpu shows @boot and wcpuid...what settings should i make to get them to 933/133? i figure if i can do that oc successfully, i can go beyond 933.
perhaps this is part of my problem:
SiSoft Sandra just showed my ram (a total of 1.5GB) as 2x256/133 and 2x512/100<---should be 2x512/133 (&%$@^!)
is that a problem?
thx

Yes, the ram is a problem. Put each stick in a different machine and test it. Also make sure you are using slots 1 and 2 and not 3 and 4.
As for the overclocking problem, it sounds like your chips are different stepping. Ensure that both chips are the same stepping.
Also what bios are you running on that VP.
Let me know what you find out.

sandra shows cpus are identical cB0. one thing i find strange is the rated speed/fsb=933mhz/133mhz.<---whats that?
in my bx system the 512ram shows as pc133 wtf???
bios on vp6=6.00 PG. i just d-loaded vp6yt.exe from abit...i thought i flashed the other day...guess not...flashing...
Hm..
733 is your speed.
133 is your front side bus.
Your frontside bus times a multiplier equals to your cpu speed ie:
133x5.5=733
PC133 is the speed of the ram.
The ram will not run at PC-133 if the FSB is not running at that speed.
For instances if your FSB were to be 150fsb then your ram would run at 150 if your 133 can take it.
As for the flashing I hope that your disc had included all the files that are suppose to be on the disk like abit requires.
the .bin, awdflash check the manual.

thx for that, and what i meant was...what does sandra's "rated speed" of 933/133 mean, and why is it difrent than the actual?
so with the ram showing as 100 &133...133 steps down to 100 right? if thats true, does that mean they won't run above 100?
oh, and where can i download the dos files i need to build a bootable floppy? 2k won't format like that...
If I'm right.
The 933 is the speed or something..
And 133 is the FSB.
And 133 being the FSB then the ram would run at PC-133..

Goto www.bootdisk.com they have a boot disk utility that you can download that will only put the necesary files that you need to boot to do a bios flash. Dr.DOS I believe it is called. This will create bare boot disks, then just put the award.exe and they bios file on the disk. When you boot up make sure all caching of anything is turned off in your bios. I mean everything, bios chaching, video chaching, if it says caching turn it off or that thing wont flash.
If you try the flash and it wont write to the disk it will throw up an error. It will say "Turning you computer off or hitting the reset button will destroy the bios" and it will lock up. Not to worry. Just reset and look for something in your bios that caches anything and turn it off. These VP's are good for that.

i pulled the 512/100s and flashed the bios.
so far i can only oc both 700s to 770mhz. beyond that, win2k hangs or only one proc shows.
^ voltage doesn't seem to make any speed difference. just adds heat.
any suggestions?

1st, what are you using for heatsinks.
2nd, how are you setting your bios to overclock?

1. heatsinks are coolermaster dp5 6131 (http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/map/dp5-6i31a.jpg) looks identical to the volcanoII (http://www.nexfan.com/images/b41cbwvi.jpg) with artic silverII and 80mm fans w/adapters
2. i've tried many combos to set bios.
currently:
a. cpu operating speed=user defined (u/d)
b. ext. clock pci =100mhz
c. cpu fsb plus =10 or 5
d. mulitplier =7
e. speed error hold =disabled (d/a)
f. dram clock =host (h) can be (h-pci) but not (h+pci)
g. cpu power supply =user defined (u/d)
h. core voltage =8
i. vcc3 voltage =3.3v
j. hardwired irq =4
combos i've tried but cause missing chip or hang:
a=u/d, b=100/133, c=0/5/10/15, d=7/7.5/8, e=d/a, f=h/h-p/h+p, g=u/d, h=6.5/7.0/7.5/8.0/8.5, i=3.3, j=4
with those settings i've passed 1ghz but only one cpu shows @boot...when i up the voltage, the other will show but win2k hangs...

Ok. You memory is reporting 100Mhz because you are running your FSB at 100Mhz. If you want to take those chips up to a 133Mhz FSB, change your ext. clock speed to 133 and set the fsb plus to 0.
That will give you a 133 Mhz FSB. If you chip works, and works good, take the fsb plus up by 2 or 3 until you lose stabitlty, then back off a few points.
