hey guys, I'm about to buy a PS2...
was wondering if u knew if I could connect it to my monitor?
I have the radeon DDR which has S-video, but does it accept input?
and use my SB Live! for sound input?
cuz I'd like to keep it in my room instead of leaving it in the living room, plus the monitor is more like HDTV
I think you'll need to get either a new video card (like the 8500) that has a tv-tuner built in and supports video in (both cable/s-video I believe) or a stand alone tv-tuner card.
I'm pretty sure that the Radeon s-video plug is strictly output, but someone please correct me if I am wrong.
As far as using your sound card that should work fine. You may just need to buy a cheap cable adapter for RCA to phone jack. If you're already using the last input jack on your card you can also buy (from radioshack or local tronix store) a y-cable like above. I'd suggest that you put it on a switch to flip between 2 different sources or both because it may cut down on noise.
You should be able to find a tv-tuner for around $50 bucks. The hauppauge and ATI's are pretty good ones. If you want a remote, radio, HDTV, etc, you can also pay more to get these features.
It is good that your card has that s-video cable on your graphics card, though. That way in the future you'll be able to output videos that you record on your computer back to a vcr or watch them on a big screen tv. :D

If you have a Radeon 64DDR vivo like i had you'll be fine, just use your video in, and your sound card for the sound, you might have to use a RCA adapter since your sound card might not take the RCA input for sound, but other than that its gonna be ok. BTW you just gave me an idea:D i might just try that with my PS2 tonight.

please do..
and let me know if it works..
I shelled out enough for the sys and games,
don't wanna shell out more for a card that I'll use for nothing else...
and I think the PS2 would make a handsome partner to my black case, or on my desk :)

What card are you using?
I've hooked up my bro's PS2 and N64 to my hauppauge via VCR and it looked pretty good...
Studio VCD from Pinnacle. I wasted my money on it & the damn editing software bundled with it expires after 30 days. This product is a total waste of money. Tried returning it but the store I bought it from wont take it back unless it's defective:mad: That'll teach me not to buy from that store again.
