I feel I have seen ghosts...

Recently bought my rig, two days ago overclocked it without many problems to 3,24 GhZ. Worked stable at 53 degrees load, memory worked at 900 4:5 ratio. Tested with 3D-mark for 5 hours and with orhois for another 3-4 hours on total. Was about to test MEMtest

What did since then:

- Removed OS
- loaded defaul clock speed (2,4)
- Removed Raid 0 (since was not able to intall another OS on it)
- Installed OS fresh (WinXP pro+ Russian from a home-built disk) together with all drivers and utiulities
- Turned on AI NOS (a utility to overclock based on system needs from AI Suite - ASUS MB utility)

Once running NuclearMC noticed temperature of proc 77 degrees. I thought some bug or AIsute shows something weird, turned off AI Sute.

Just to be on the safe side removed Zalman, put it on arktic silver paste, put it on again, added another fan I removed earlier.. Turning on.

After reboot always see temperature - 22 degrees... trying to load with orthis, it goes up to 35, but then I suddenly see 82. I stopped orthosis, temperature goes down to 77.. I am shocked, rebooting, temp - 22. Now starting my record.

So, start. As I said, 21 degrees. Test starts at 6:20 PM

30 seconds, temp 34

http://homepages.nyu.edu/~vya201/5_min.jpg

after 8 minutes temperature goes to 37

at this point I decided that I simply saw a ghost, left to kitchen for a minute. And here it is:

notice, PC-wiz shows 37.. refreshing PCwiz

http://homepages.nyu.edu/~vya201/10_min_refresh_pcwiz.jpg

its 82... :(

Core temp shows 35-37. Restarting coretemp and AI-sute, nothing changes..

http://homepages.nyu.edu/~vya201/10_min_restart_coretemp.jpg

still same.

I do not understand anything

Can anyone tell me what might be a problem here?

Please!!!!

PS I bought all stuff from newegg can still change MB or CPU

Maybe different monitoring programs don't get along with each other? Try just orthos and asus pc probe and nothing else. Make sure to update all drivers.

My "tjunction" temp is also 85C. Your CPU temps are "Core 0,1". You can download Intel Thermal Analysis Tool and it will report the same temps as Core Temp. (within the 30s)

Yeah, your temps are fine... No worry.

Your temps are extremly high. Id be very concerned. at 3.9ghz I top out around 80C max load at 1.6V..... your at stock.. you should idle and load between 30-45. Either your zalman is to small or something.. Which model is it?

Just use intel tat.

By the way I always wondered what the AI suite looked like.:)

Nice GIF and OC Tyler_B

I left ASUS Probe and TAT monitoring after Prime for night.

In the morning turning on monitor ... bah.. BEEP BEEP BEEP ..... 82 DEGREES. (from PC-Probe)

TAT shows both temperatures stable at 31-32 (I reseted everything to default: 2,4 @266 x 9)

I do not believe its really 80c. After seeing 80 C from probe I turned off the machine, and touched proc. This gold chipset on the MB was a little hot, however proc was cold. Really looked much more like 30 than 80.

Where TAT gets information from? Where PCProbe/AISuite gets info from?

What does touchtest tell yah?

I have googled touchtest found nothing.. lol.. :)

Right after seeing 80 on PC-probe... Not hot at all.

I believe TAT is the on die temprature on the chip itself and that asus probe has an external sensor.

Coretemp or TAT seem to be the best temp monitoring programs out there. I wouldn't trust asus probe.

There are no external CPU temp sensors on P5B-Dlx.
Or any other modern board.

victor79,
Just ignore the Asus software. There's no way temps could vary so quickly.
CoreTemp / ITAT are the best - eventhough both of them are also off by more than 8ºC...

8C? To my understanding Core Temp and TAT are fairly good at getting around the exact temp since they actually monitor the die. TAT is the most accurate temperature software I've ever worked with.

vic - Just ignore whatever Asus Probe says and go with CT and TAT.

Thats pretty weird. I get almost the same temp with pc probe and coretemp.
