Anyone else play DDR?

I just started last week, and am able to hit B on most all light ones... Moving up to Standard I get smoked like a chicken wing at an Arkansas barbeque.

What songs are the best to progress from light to standard on? Like, harder "light" songs, that will help me progress up to the easier standard ones....

(I have DDR Extreme, and DDR Extreme 2)

I play DDR Extreme 2, and I'm pretty good. What you've gotta look at is the grid-thing. That'll tell you how fast a song is, how much air is in it, how many hold steps etc, and that'll help you in the long run. You've also gotta watch how many steps the song is. Like, don't try Speed over Beethoven or Butterfly when you're still having some trouble with the easier ones.

Try songs that are around 2 and 3 steps (the number of feet displayed on the song selection screen for that song) and go from there. Practice makes perfect.

Also, remember that you absolutely do not have to re-center yourself on the pad before the next step. If you have to step to the right for one step, you can leave your foot there and not be penalized for it.

Yah, I do the "Leave foot where it was" trick... I'll have to try DDR Extreme 2, I've been playing just DDR Extreme, which just tells you the BPM for the song and you have to guess how difficult it is from that :P.

I started playing DDR about 2 years ago, but havn't played much in about 6 months. There really aren't any special tricks to progressing, but there are a few things that can help you make the most of your play time. First I would turn on the setting where the song continues playing even if you fail, that way you can continue practicing on songs that are slightly too hard for you to pass at the time (Not sure what its called on Extreme, most of my experience has been on DDR Ultramix 1-3, Stepmania, and arcade pads). Choose one of the easier songs of the difficulty you currently cannot play on (sounds like standard at the moment) and play the hell out of it, get used to alternating steps with each foot whenever possible (as compared to keeping one foot planted, and pivoting the other around). Currently you probably keep both feet planted in the center of the pad, and for each arrow move the foot outward, then return to the center, which will help you get your rhythm down for now but as you play more standard you will reach a point where you don't have time to do that, so you should start getting used to leaving your feet where they lay after a step, when you get comfortable where your at. If I think of anything else I'll let you know. DDR is good fun, welcome to the game.

Cheers,
odin

Hmm. I'll have to check around in the options to turn off the "Ooh! too bad! You suck so we;renot even gonna let you finish the song!" mode :-p.

Are the 360 pads USB? I assume so, but they could be wireless. I have Stepmania, but it's boring with the arrows...

Oh, I'm playing on my friends PS2... I was very tempted to pick up DDR Universe for 360 today...

More than likely it's wired....

Anyway, I can now do Play that Funky Music on Standard, and one other one (Can't remember the name).

I can also do Speedy Beethoven on Light, as well as Cartoon Heroes. Good stuff!

Geeze, this game is fun... I'm doing it in combination with my-calorie-counter.com and keeping my calories to ~1800-2000 per day, and then working off ~ 500 per day, which should give me ~2 ish pounds a week of weight loss, which means I should hit 175 by the end of this summer....

Cartoon Heroes isn't bad. Speed over Beethoven is pretty rough. I can barely (just barely) pull off Captain Jack, but I really have to work for it.

Captain Jack on Standard, Heavy, or Light?

Standard. I can do it, but it usually ends up damn-near killing me :p

I played tonight for the first time in a long time. It felt good.
