Amazingly, I actually found a playable PS3 in a store yesterday (the rest had demo videos if they were even turned on at all). I played it a few times and it looked nice (reminded me of ExciteTruck on steroids) but I’ve got a few questions maybe you can help sort out.

1. The game had a LOT of slowdown when there were multiple cars/trucks on the screen, I did not notice any slowdown with the motorcycles though. Do you experience this as well?

2. The game was on an Sony LCD panel and had a TON of ghosting. I’d say it was probably running 720p but don’t know for sure. Do you experience this as well?

3. I heard a LOUD fan running while playing the game, probably 10x as loud as the fabled one on the 360, but have heard the PS3 is fairly quiet. I asked the store clerk about it and he said that MotorStorm heated the system up so much from running all day long that the PS3 would overheat without it and that’s why most stores don’t have working playable PS3s. Do you agree with his assertion?

Anyway, I’m just curious if this was due to a crappy store setup or if you PS3 owners agree with the above.

AFAIK, the MotorStorm that the display units are running is an older demo version. From what I've been reading, the developers have been cleaning up the code ever since the Japanese launch, so the North American launch should look much better

The game is also only going to run in 720p, as 1080i is not supported. This has been confirmed, but I can't find the article right now (it was on Kotaku or Destructoid IIRC) I believe the final framrate is 30FPS, but I might be wrong.

As for the fans in the console being loud, well, you'd have loud fans, too if you were stuck in a plastic box with little to no ventilation and forced to run a poorly coded demo all day :p

I have PS3 and the game and it runs smooth as possible. Play it on a new Sony Bravia 1080p and it looks absolutely stunning.

As far as heat goes, my PS3 is quieter then my 360 and I have not had a single problem yet. I went through 3 360's up to date.

Heat problems, really? The ONLY time I ever hear my PS3 fan spin up is when I first turn the system on and then it spins down. I have had hours long sessions of Resistance:FoM, but I have yet to hear the fan kick in.

Where can I get this demo?

I was hoping the guy at the store was just full of ****. Surfrider77, I guess you can download the demo through Sony online.

As you probably know by know Fudge I own a PS3 and recently just got this game.
1. Actually I am yet to notice any slowdowns, I have only played it a couple hours but from what I saw it ran perfectly.
2.On a Sony Rear Projection screen myself I have also failed to notice any issues with ghosting.
3. I run mine non stop all the time (Infact yet to turn it off for more then a firmware update) and it runs extremely silent and has only overheated once when I blocked the fan wholes on purpose to see if the heat detection system would work. (It did) As I am sure you know with computers though once they reach their max temp in say 15 minutes they do not continue to get hotter, merely the air around them can warm up making the electronic itself continue to slowly heat up for a period of time.

I have the demo from Playstation store since it's out. never notice any ghost/slow down (on any game), and never hear anything from the PS3 UNLESS I stick my ear next to it! (and planning to fold 24/7 on it too!)

and as Oni said, anything got stuck w/in a plastic box with pretty much no ventilation, it gotta have a fast fan spinning! (in fact, I too heard the fan noise from those display demo; however, I think it's coming from the plastic box itself)

Well, I hate to say it but I'll probably pull the trigger and get one earlier than I had previously planned (most likely in May), because I'm itching for the BluRay movie viewing. I don't really like the new controller as it is too lightweight and I don't at all like the R2 and L2 buttons, but supposedly Sony is fixing that AND adding rumble by then.

Really, I can forgive Sony for their evil ways if indeed they have built a quality product this time. However, if I buy one and it dies in a year or two, then hell will hath no fury like me. I'll get a damned lawyer and drag my 2 dead and 1 dying PS1 and 2 dead PS2s into the equation (although I no longer have them :/ ). I'll even bite the bullet and buy 2 years of extended warranty even though that goes against my principles.

I find it encouraging though that there are no reports to my knowledge of dead PS3s right of the bat, like there was with the 360. It's the BluRay drive itself that has me edgy. Seriosuly, with each generation the machines should get better not crappier.

Well if your experiences are vastly different with the downloaded MotorStorm than mine was with the store-demo, what do you think? How did they fix it? Did they tone down resolution or did they simply tweak the code?

um heat problems? of course it will since its locked up in that store box you played it in with horrible ventilation...same with every console

Our PS3 is silent, no loud fans here.

The crazy thing is, I had know idea that the developers of Motorstorm are about 1 mile away from where I live until my dad directed me to a job advertisement in the local newspaper to a game developer. :p

sorry for the randomness just thought it was cool, where I live is just known for industrial estates etc.

yea people love to say the ps3 overheats and is really loud, they must be confusing it with the 360 heh,

anyway the in store demo of motorstorm is really bad, it runs slow and doesn't really show how the game runs. the demo you can download in the ps store runs better and the real game is good, no slowdowns that i've seen yet.

i just think the in store version was very very alpha and wasn't really streamlined yet, the demo in the ps store is much more solid.

I played this game today in a store when I was looking to see if they had Test Drive Unlimited for PC a day early.

Anyways, It is 720p, I hit the info button on the LCD. Also, it was VERY slow/laggy, and the ps3 was also INSANELY loud. So basically, I had the same experience as you.

Was it an EB Games store? Maybe they all have the same setup

Motorstorm runs nice and smooth for me. As for the fan, its more quiet than my 2 yate loons on my radiator.
